Community Focus
Safety
Throughout the month of October, we focused on safety. We’re taking a moment to reflect on the proactive steps we’ve taken since the start of the school year to ensure our district remains a safe environment for all students. Our ongoing initiatives range from emergency preparedness drills and bus safety education to enhanced security partnerships and strategic investments. We remain dedicated to making our schools a safe, welcoming space, knowing that safety is a continuous commitment.
Emergency Preparedness Drills
Safety drills have been a crucial part of our curriculum throughout the year, preparing students to respond confidently to various scenarios, including fire, tornado, and lockdown situations. These drills are designed to equip our students and staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle emergencies effectively, fostering a culture of readiness and resilience within our schools.
Bus Safety Training
Ensuring safe transportation for our students has been another focal point of our safety efforts. At the beginning of the school year, our youngest students received bus safety instruction, and all K-8 students recently completed bus evacuation drills. These exercises are essential in teaching students how to travel safely to and from school, as well as on field trips, reinforcing our commitment to their well-being at every stage of their journey.
Strengthened Community Partnerships
Our collaboration with the Harrison Police Department has grown significantly, enabling us to place a School Resource Officer (SRO) in each building across the district. This increase from two shared SROs to an officer at every school enhances our ability to maintain a safe environment and provides valuable connections between students, staff, and local law enforcement. Our SROs play an integral role in creating a secure and supportive atmosphere within our schools.
Strategic Safety Investments
Thanks to grant funding, we’ve been able to strengthen our safety measures across the district by adding critical resources and implementing enhanced security protocols. These investments help ensure that we are well-prepared to handle emergencies and maintain a safe environment, reflecting our commitment to proactive and preventative safety strategies.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, our dedication to student safety will continue to drive our efforts. We are committed to reinforcing these safety initiatives throughout the year, continuously evaluating and improving our protocols to uphold a secure learning environment. Together with our community, we strive to maintain a district where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Communications
Throughout the month of September we focused on communications. We believe that open and effective communication is essential for fostering a thriving educational environment. In the last year, we have hosted multiple town halls, surveys, and opportunities to engage with the district. Thanks to your feedback, we’re implementing ways to streamline communication between our schools and families, making it easier for you to stay informed about important updates and events. Your voice matters in shaping our communication strategies!
