WHHHS Update

Posted on: October 27, 2023
Update

We have completed the last full week of October and are in the groove of the second quarter. With the days off sprinkled in November, the second quarter will go quickly, so please be sure to check your student’s ProgressBook and reach out with any questions or if there is anything we can do to help!

Please see below for some important information and updates.

Picture Re-Take Day – Weds 11/1
Picture Re-Take Day will be Wednesday, November 1 in the Makerspace.  If a student had their pictures taken and would like a re-take, they should bring the entire picture packet back with them.  If a student was absent, they can either bring their order form with them, or if they need to order a picture package, they can order at https://ritchiephoto.simplephoto.com/prepay/47541906?code=HARRMU24.

Senior Pictures – Thurs 11/30 & Fri 12/1
Executive Studio will be back at Harrison High School for any senior who still needs their portrait taken for the Yearbook on Thurs 11/30 and Fri 12/1 (if necessary).  Seniors can schedule appointments by calling Executive Studio at 513-241-4959 Mon – Fri between 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM starting Monday, October 30.

Harrison Mayor’s Community Fund
Applications for holiday assistance through the Harrison Mayor’s Community Fund will be accepted and reviewed during the month of November.  Assistance is available to any family residing in the Southwest Local School District.  Please see the attached flyer for additional information.

Tutoring is Available
The National Honor Society has started their weekly tutoring sessions.  Every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7:15 AM, the National Honor Society students will be available for free tutoring for anyone who needs help.  There’s no need to sign up in advance, just show up to Room 104 (Mrs. Siemer’s room), and let the NHS students help you with any subject you need.  Please reach out to Mrs. Siemer if you have any questions.

Check Out The Paw Print – Harrison’s Online Student News Site
Mrs. Evanson’s Journalism class has been working hard, and they have launched an online news site entitled “The Paw Print.”  Please be sure to check it out at https://harrisonpawprint.org/.

School Fees
School fees are now posted to our students’ accounts.  Directions for how to log on and pay student fees are attached to this email.  Thank you for your attention to this information!

Harrison Ski/Snowboard Club
Harrison High School is starting a new club....Ski/Snowboard Club!  We plan to have four organized trips to Perfect North starting in mid-January and going through February.  Students and FAMILY can purchase discounted tickets/rentals through the club!  If you have a high school student interested in buying a pass, please check out the High School Club flyer. If any friends or family members that are not high school students would like to buy a pass, please check out the Friends and Family flyer. One of the best features with buying your pass through a club is that they have an exclusive four- or five-visit pass option.  This is not available to the general public and is an amazing option for anyone wanting to try out skiing for the first time or for those that know they will only be able to make it a couple times a season. Deadline for the price savings is November 5th.  You can contact Jenny Barker at jenny.barker@southwestschools.org with any questions.

Junior/Senior College Visits
Any junior or senior interested in meeting with college representatives can sign up on Naviance. This is a great way to learn about colleges and if they are a good fit. We will have a variety of colleges visit Harrison High School throughout the school year.

Seniors received instruction on how to complete transcript requests in Naviance on Thursday, August 31st during Advisory.  The slide show is available for viewing on both the Guidance page of the school’s website and on the Class of 2024 Teams page. Students at Diamond Oaks/Scarlet Oaks will be receiving the same instruction during their individual meetings when their Harrison counselor visits the Oaks buildings over the next few weeks.

Junior ACT
Any junior that has completed Algebra 2 and is college bound is encouraged to take the 12/9/23 ACT. The deadline to register is 11/3/23 and students can register at The ACT Ohio.

Naviance has free test preparation that all students have access to on their Naviance account.   **Juniors do NOT have to sign up for the state sponsored test that is given during school at the end of February.  It is recommended, however, that students take the ACT at least twice to earn their optimal score.  Students/parents do have to register on their own for that 2nd test that is not school sponsored.

PTO Butter Braid Fundraiser
The Harrison Jr. Sr. PTO is holding a Butter Braid sale now until November 7th! You can create your own online store by going to https://store.myfundraisingplace.com/RegisterSeller/42609247-c6eb-444a-9e10-8c7167e07df5. Paper order forms will also be available in the school office for any student who prefers to sell that way!  Pick up will be held on Thursday, November 16th from 2:30-4:00 pm at HJS in the cafeteria. We have some amazing incentives this year: Students who sell 10 or more items will receive a full size candy bar and bottle of pop. Students who sell 20 or more items will receive a pizza lunch at school. Students who sell 30 or more will receive a Yeti water bottle. And finally… the first student to reach 50 items sold will get a pair of Apple AirPods. Any additional students who reach 50 items will receive a $50 gift card of their choosing. All profits from the sale go back to all HJS and WHHHS students, staff, and building needs! Please email PTO at HarrisonJrSrPTO@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you for your support!
