Update

Thank you for a great first quarter!  It’s hard to believe that we are 25% of the way through the school year, but we are off to a fantastic start and we are set up for a strong school year!  Through the first nine weeks, our staff has recognized 471 different students for living our core values of Trust, Respect, Ownership, and Leadership, and we look forward to recognizing even more of our students throughout the second quarter.

Also, I am proud to share that we officially reported our Class of 2023 graduation rate to the Ohio Department of Education this past week, and we have increased from a four-year graduation rate of 88.7% for the Class of 2022 to a four-year graduation rate of 95% for the Class of 2023!  This is a great accomplishment for our staff, students, and families!

Final grades are due in our system late Wednesday evening, so you should start to see your student’s final first quarter grades in ProgressBook over the next few days.

Please see below for some important information and updates.

Satchel Pulse/Social Emotional Learning
The Southwest Local School District will be using Satchel Pulse to implement the Ohio Department of Education’s Social Emotional Learning standards for the 2023-2024 school year.  More detailed information is available in my email to families on Thursday, October 12, and can also be found here

Tutoring is Available
The National Honor Society has started their weekly tutoring sessions.  Every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7:15 AM, the National Honor Society students will be available for free tutoring for anyone who needs help.  There’s no need to sign up in advance, just show up to Room 104 (Mrs. Siemer’s room), and let the NHS students help you with any subject you need.  Please reach out to Mrs. Siemer if you have any questions.

Check Out The Paw Print – Harrison’s Online Student News Site
Mrs. Evanson’s Journalism class has been working hard, and they have launched an online news site entitled “The Paw Print.”  Please be sure to check it out at https://harrisonpawprint.org/.

School Fees
School fees are now posted to our students’ accounts.  Directions for how to log on and pay student fees are attached to this email.  Thank you for your attention to this information!

Junior/Senior College Visits
Any junior or senior interested in meeting with college representatives can sign up on Naviance. This is a great way to learn about colleges and if they are a good fit. We will have a variety of colleges visit Harrison High School throughout the school year.

Seniors received instruction on how to complete transcript requests in Naviance on Thursday, August 31st during Advisory.  The slide show is available for viewing on both the Guidance page of the school’s website and on the Class of 2024 Teams page. Students at Diamond Oaks/Scarlet Oaks will be receiving the same instruction during their individual meetings when their Harrison counselor visits the Oaks buildings over the next few weeks.

Junior ACT
Any junior that has completed Algebra 2 and is college bound is encouraged to take the 12/9/23 ACT. The deadline to register is 11/3/23 and students can register at The ACT Ohio

Naviance has free test preparation that all students have access to on their Naviance account.
