Update

Welcome back from a four-day weekend, it is great to see the sun start to rise each morning as parents drop off their students, and hopefully some warmer weather is right around the corner.  We have many exciting things happening in the coming week(s) and we wanted to share them directly with our families.

Community and Family Engagement

As part of our continuing community engagement process, we are inviting everyone to participate in a facilities discussion and guided tour of William Henry Harrison High School on Thursday, February 22 at 6:00 PM, beginning in the high school Makerspace.  If you are headed to the Sports Stag, it will be wrapped up in time for you to make it there on time!   The tour is open to families and community members alike, so please help spread the word!

Please RSVP here.

Did You Know?

Over the past four years, Southwest Local School District has worked hard to listen to our parents and community.  As part of efforts for ongoing safety measure we have added multiple School Resource Officers through our partnership with the Harrison Police Department, School Nurses so our students have access to care during the school day, and the addition of our Mental Wellness Specialists to help provide therapeutic support and wrap around services for many of our students.

Erin’s Law & Save our Students Act

Recently, the State of Ohio passed two separate laws relating to students in schools.  Last week, the District hosted an informational night for parents and students alike to learn about the laws and next steps related to our students.

For those who were not able to attend the February 12th parent meeting to go over the new Erin's Law and SAVE Students Act requirements for schools, please click HERE for a link to the audio recording of the presentations and a link to the slides.

For some families, they may choose to have their child opt out of the lessons that are not a part of State Law.  For families who choose to do so, they will need to print out the attached form and turn it in to Mr. Tracy completed.  SAVE Student's Act Opt Out Letter.pdf

If you have specific questions, please contact Mr. Tracy at 513-367-4831.

Getting Involved

For our 7th and 8th Grade students, track and field is right around the corner!  With nearly 110 students already signing up, we would love to have even more students get involved.  Track is a “no cut” sport and all students can get involved in some fashion.  If you are a parent, and did not receive information, please contact Mr. Burns (Patrick.burns@southwestschools.org) or Mrs. Cutter (Brooke.cutter@southwestschools.org) for more information.  Practices start March 4th!

Conference Night

Our final conference night will take place on February 29th.  Be on the lookout for the conference link this week.  For our students that currently have an “F” they will receive the link tomorrow in their email.  All other families will receive the link on Thursday morning.

6th and 7th Grade Scheduling

On Monday, February 26th, we will meet with our current 6th and 7th Grade students regarding scheduling for the 2024-25 school year!  Students will receive their course registration guides and signup sheets at that meeting.  We are asking students to make those selections and return them to school on Friday, March 1st.  This will allow families who attend conferences to ask any questions that they may have and allow us to start with the process of next year’s schedule!  If you have any questions regarding scheduling for the 2024-25 school year, please contact their guidance counselor.

Great Week!

We are looking forward to a great week and helping students get back into the swing of things following the four day break!  Thank you for keeping the focus on our core values each day!
