State Testing

Over the course of the past week, each of our nearly 1100 students completed both sections of their Ohio State Test!  We are happy and grateful that our students have put in so much effort and hard work during testing, but more importantly, they have put in the hard work throughout the entire school year!  For our students who still need to complete State testing due to be absent, we will begin make-up testing next week.  One of our main messages to our students has been to perform better then they did a year ago.  This is aligned directly with our mission of Academic growth for our students!  We look forward to seeing those results.

Summer School

Last night, our Southwest Local School District School Board approved the Summer School program.  This week, we are reviewing our students academics and grades throughout the school year.  Students are required to pass a minimum of five semesters of their core classes.  Core classes include ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  Families who have students who are at risk will receive a phone call and email via our school messenger system next week.  Please encourage all students to finish the school year strong!  In addition, next week we will start up again with our families notifying them if their students currently has an “F” in any of their classes.  Please continue to check Progressbook

Erin’s Law

Ohio’s 134th General Assembly enacted Senate Bill 288 which updated the prescribed curriculum for health education, adding requirements related to child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence prevention and sexual violence prevention. The law includes requirements for student instruction, parent and legal guardian notification and training for school personnel.

• Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, schools are required to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in dating violence prevention education and sexual violence prevention education to students in grades seven through twelve.

• Upon written request of the student's parent or guardian, a student shall be excused from taking instruction in child sexual abuse prevention.  Click HERE for the opt-out form.

A Message from our Food Service Department

Southwest Schools prides itself on offering the lowest school lunch prices in the area, while still covering all operational costs associated with our food service program.  With that in mind, we do not anticipate raising prices for the 2024-25 school year.  As a reminder, if you feel like your family may be eligible for free or reduced lunch prices based on your household income, then you should apply online via the “Food Service” tab of the district website (www.southwestschools.org).  Applications for the 2024-25 school year will be open in early- to mid-July.  Acceptance into the free or reduced lunch program could also provide other benefits that may include academic fee waivers, holiday church help, or summer EBT program benefits.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Sue Toelke or Adam Lohbeck at (513) 367-4139.

STEAM Field Trip To King’s Island

For our STEAM families, the process to sign up for the King’s Island Field trip was a two step process.  Students/families needed to register online and pay the fee for tickets through “Local Level” in addition, students needed to turn in the hard copy paper with the QR code with parent signatures to their STEAM teacher.  If you are unsure that both items were completed, please reach out to Mrs. Carroll at cathie.carroll@southwestschools.org.  We want to confirm that we have the necessary tickets before they are sold out.  Thank you for your help with this process!

Did you Know

Did you know that since 2019, Southwest Local School District has added over 400 students?  This represents roughly a 10% growth over the course of five years!   SLSD Enrollment (2).png

Thank you families for all of your hard work!  Looking forward to a great weekend!
