Update

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for Conference Night, as well as our College Credit Plus and Advanced Placement meetings!  We are now down to our last two weeks in the first semester.  Please be sure that you are checking ProgressBook and please feel free to reach out to your student’s teachers as necessary.  Our expectation is that all phone calls/emails are returned within 24 business hours.

Please see below for some important information and updates.

Wednesday, December 13: Two-Hour Delay Schedule
On Wednesday, December 13, we will be administering our Ohio State Tests in American Government for all students taking American Government or American Government CP in the first semester.  This is primarily sophomores and does not include students taking AP American Government as they will test in the Spring.  Students testing on Wednesday, December 13 should report by 7:55 AM as we will start promptly at 8:05 AM.  All students not testing (generally, grades 9, 11, 12 and AP American Government students) should report by 10:05 AM.  Students needing to arrive earlier than 10:05 will be able to wait in the Commons.

2022-2023 Yearbooks
Any student in grades 10-12 who ordered a 2022-2023 yearbook and has not yet picked it up, please stop by Room 111 during 1st bell, 5th bell, before school or after school. Any Class of 2023 graduate who ordered a 2022-2023 yearbook needs to pick theirs up in the front office.  All yearbooks need to be picked up no later than Wednesday, December 20.  Email jane.hinterlong@southwestschools.org with any questions.

2023-2024 Yearbook – Order Now!
Have you ordered your student’s 2023-2024 Yearbook yet?  If not, now is the time!  The current price is $77, but will increase after December 15.  Click HERE to place your order.

Project Adam Certification and Drill
Our school nurse, Mrs. Tessa Freel, has been collaborating with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's (CCHMC) Heart Institute and Project Adam to help us earn the "Heart Safe" designation.  Mrs. Freel, several teachers, and staff members at our school have attended training and have a plan in place to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest.  We also have two AED's (automated external defibrillator) in the building.

Please read our letter about our upcoming Project Adam/CCHMC cardiac emergency drill, which is attached to this email.  The drill will take place the week of December 11th, but the representatives from CCHMC Heart Institute will not give warning or the location in our building that the drill will occur in advance.  The Harrison Fire Department and Harrison Police Department will be aware of the drill in advance and will be responding during the drill as if there is a real cardiac arrest emergency.

If you have any questions about our upcoming Project Adam drill, please call 513-367-4169 and ask for Nurse Tessa Freel.

Fall Art Show Now Underway
The Annual High School/Junior School Fall Art Show is now open at the Harrison Branch of the Public Library, now through Friday, December 15.  Please stop by to see some amazing art work from our very talented students!  A big thank you to our Art Department for working with our students and for assembling this wonderful display!

Financial Aid Night
William Henry Harrison High School will be sponsoring its annual Financial Aid Meeting for Parents on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023, beginning at 6:30 PM in the Harrison High School Makerspace.

At this meeting, parents will receive an overview of the financial aid process.  Brent Shock, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success at Miami University, will be on hand to answer questions and explain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filing process.

Be sure to mark your calendars now for December 13th!  This will be the only financial aid meeting of this type in the area this year.  Questions concerning this meeting can be directed to Steve Barnes, counselor at the high school, at 513-728-8430.

Community Engagement Survey
We are still looking to collect your feedback, as we did throughout this past year’s Town Hall process.  If you haven’t yet completed our survey, please do so here.  We want to hear from as many families and community members as possible!

Tutoring is Available
The National Honor Society has started their weekly tutoring sessions.  Every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7:15 AM, the National Honor Society students will be available for free tutoring for anyone who needs help.  There’s no need to sign up in advance, just show up to Room 104 (Mrs. Siemer’s room), and let the NHS students help you with any subject you need.  Please reach out to Mrs. Siemer if you have any questions.

Check Out The Paw Print – Harrison’s Online Student News Site
Mrs. Evanson’s Journalism class has been working hard, and they have launched an online news site entitled “The Paw Print.”  Please be sure to check it out at https://harrisonpawprint.org/.

Junior/Senior College Information
Seniors received instruction on how to complete transcript requests in Naviance on Thursday, August 31st during Advisory.  The slide show is available for viewing on both the Guidance page of the school’s website and on the Class of 2024 Teams page.
