"Shower With Kindness" Drive This Week

Posted on: January 24, 2021

Student Council, Student Leadership, and HOSA are teaming up to sponsor the "Shower with Kindness" drive that will collect items for a local homeless shelter.

Did you know over half a million people in the United States go home without a place to stay every night? We want to make a difference for these individuals and ask you to bring items in to school from January 25-29.

All items must be new, and can include personal hygiene items such as travel size deodorant, shampoo, soap, hand sanitizer, mouthwash, combs and more. All items will be collected in your first bell.

In January 2018, 552,830 people were counted as homeless in the United States. Of those, 194,467 (35 percent) were unsheltered, and 358,363 (65 percent) were sheltered. The overall homeless population on a single night represents 0.2 percent of the U.S. population, or 17 people per 10,000 in the population. Although you may have never personally experienced homelessness, we are asking our student body to help donate supplies to those in need.

According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, over 57,000 veterans go homeless every night, with only 60% of them being in shelters. We are organizing this collection drive to help our neighbors in need. If you can spare just one, or a few, brand new personal hygiene items, you will make a difference in someone’s life.

The top 5 classes with the most items collected will receive donuts. In addition to donuts, the top two classes will also receive a pizza party. Again, bring in items to your first bell class by Friday.
