First Day Update

Posted on: August 14, 2023
Update

We are excited to welcome our students back to school tomorrow morning!  I wanted to briefly reach out again around traffic, our Meet-the-Teacher Night, and a few other quick items.

Arrival/Pick-Up/Traffic

Our school day is the same as last year: 8:05 AM – 2:55 PM.  Doors open at 6:45 AM and all students should report to The Commons upon arrival.  Students should not remain in the building after school hours without teacher supervision.  Students who are not involved in a supervised after-school activity shall be required to be in the high school supervised Commons area or must leave both the high school and the Activity Center by 3:15 PM.

The bus for Diamond Oaks will be parked at the main entrance to the High School and will leave at 7:15 AM each morning.  Students should arrive five to ten minutes early to make sure they catch the bus; it returns each day at 2:40 PM.

When dropping off or picking up your student, please be patient, especially during the first two weeks while our new families learn the traffic pattern.  We also ask that when lining up to drop off or pick up that you please pull as far forward as you can before stopping to let your student out of the vehicle.  We will have lots of additional staff out there at arrival and dismissal this week to help us get off to a strong start, and patience, kindness, and understanding will help us get through the first two weeks of traffic.

Please remember that Wildcat Way (the two-way street between the main building and the stadium) is a no parking zone and we must keep it clear at all times.  This also applies to after-school events as bus traffic uses Wildcat Way throughout the afternoons and evenings as well.  Also, at dismissal for anyone coming south on Dry Fork to pick up their student, the Harrison Police Department has suggested entering the central campus using the Harrison Junior School entrance and going all the way around to the high school as this will help reduce traffic through the roundabout.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO REVIEW THE ARRIVAL AND PICK-UP TRAFFIC INFORMATION FOUND HERE.

Meet-the-Teacher Night – Weds 8/16: Pick Up Schedules at 5:30 PM

We are returning to a traditional Meet-the-Teacher Night, to be held Wednesday, August 16 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  This will be an opportunity to follow your student’s schedule and meet your student’s teachers.  Student schedules will be available for pickup in The Commons at 5:30 PM and classroom presentations will begin promptly at 6:00 PM.

We will also have our Technology Coordinator and our Food Services Coordinator here at school during the Meet-the-Teacher Night to answer questions and provide assistance with Final Forms, ProgressBook, and questions about adding money to your student’s lunch account and free/reduced lunch.

Final Forms

All parents/guardians should log in to Final Forms and update their student’s forms. This is where we pull our information for communication purposes, so please be sure your information is up to date. This is also where you will go for instructions on how to access ProgressBook.

Lunch

We are welcoming back nearly 1400 students tomorrow and the Commons will be crowded at lunch.  We worked this summer to divide our classes and assign lunches, and we can assure you that there are enough seats in each of our three lunches, however, again, it will be crowded.  Students may end up sitting at a table with both friends and students they don’t know, but they will have a seat.  We will have 5th bell Study Hall starting the year by eating in the old gymnasium but we anticipate that only lasting into the second week as students sign up to aid elsewhere in the building.

Please feel free to contact us with questions…here’s to a great 2023-2024 school year!
