First Day Update
YAY for the First Day! I'm sure your kiddos came home with lots of stories to tell about the first day of school. Our motto in the Southwest Local School District is, "Excellence Through Relationships!" and we hit the ground running by connecting with our students today! Many parents and guardians try to talk to their kids about their school day, and often get one word answers that put a halt to further conversation. When you ask your child, "How was your day at school?" and the response is: "Fine", consider trying the following conversation starters to have a better and more fruitful discussion. These questions lead to insight about your child's experiences and gives you opportunities to help them grow!

- Whom would you like to sit by in class?
- Where is the coolest place at the school?
- If I called your teacher tonight, what would he or she tell me about you?
- How did you help somebody today?

- What are the 4 Core Values at Miami Whitewater Elementary? How did you live the core values at school today? Give me an example...
- When were you bored today?
- Who would you like to play with at recess whom you’ve never played with before?
- What word did your teacher say the most today?
- What do you think you should do/learn more of at school?
- What do you think you should do/learn less of at school?
- Who in your class do you think you could be nicer to?
- Where did you play the most at recess?
- Who is the funniest person in your class? Why is he/she so funny?
- What was your favorite part of lunch?
Our PTO Spirit Wear sale has started! At Miami Whitewater Elementary, every Friday is WILDCAT Friday. We encourage students, teachers, & staff members to wear green, black, & white every Friday. We're looking for volunteers to help in the MWE cafe during lunch each day. The secretaries will run a quick background check and provide a volunteer badge. Regular volunteers will need a background check every three years at the SLSD District Office.
