Southwest Local School District Board of Education member Tricia Evanson has announced her resignation from the Board, effective April 15, 2022.

Evanson has served on the Board since 2016, contributing to many of the district’s successes during that six-year period.  In addition to her efforts in helping to pass the nearly $77MM levy which allowed four new schools to be built, she presided over the Naming Committee for Miami Whitewater Elementary.  A tireless advocate for the arts, Evanson dedicated many hours to helping the band, chorus, and drama programs.  She was instrumental in organizing Miamitown Elementary’s application to be named a Blue-Ribbon School in 2017 and has been involved in the interview process that led to the hiring of many of the teachers who have joined SLSD during her tenure on the School Board. She also served on both the district technology adoption team in 2017 as well as the district-wide English Language Arts adoption in 2018.

“Tricia’s passion for excellence here at SLSD, in all aspects of our operations, has been contagious” said SLSD Superintendent John Hamstra. “We greatly appreciate her efforts to improve upon the academic and social growth of our students and for pushing us to be better in all that we do.”

Applications are currently being accepted to fill Mrs. Evanson’s vacated seat.  The deadline to apply is April 22, 2022, and the potential replacement will be voted on at the May 12 Board meeting.  Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest to Board President Jeff Biddle at jeff.biddle@southwestschools.org.
