HJS Update

Update

It is December 1st and we are incredibly excited to be closing out the calendar year and celebrating the Holiday season.  We look forward to celebrating with your families and want to share some monthly updates with our HJS Families.

Mission Share Out

We have had an incredible November with many great events.  The month started out with over 200 students going to Washington D.C. marking the 43rd consecutive year that Harrison Junior School 8th Graders have completed the trip.  Each of our 8th Graders attended a field trip to Diamond Oaks to learn about many of the vocational programs that are available to them.  Our Fall Sports seasons ended with League Titles in Football, Cross Country & Volleyball.  The start of Winter Sports are in full swing with our first ever official women’s wrestling team at the Junior High Level.  E-Sports season has begun with tryouts for our students as we continue to look at getting 100% of our students involved in an activity.

We continue to work with our teachers and students to provide stretch in the classroom in an effort to grow our students academically each day.  Each of our teachers participated in In-Service to help better understand and utilize our students MAP Results and Restart Readiness Results in their education to help personalize our instruction to each student.  Teachers are actively working on new ideas in this and it has been wonderful to see it in action.  Thank you to our parents who continue to push to have your children read each night (one of the absolute best things that you can do to help your children grow academically) as well as those families that we have reached out to to notify that their students may be in danger of earning an “F”.  Our goal is to work with all of our families to continue growing your student.

Food and Clothing Drive

Our annual Holiday Food & Clothing Drive will take place next week, December 4-8! Bring in non-perishable food items and winter clothing items to your 1st Bell class. Our building goal is 6,000 items and ALL students will receive a reward if we meet this goal.  Click HERE for the flyer that you can share with friends and family.

All non-perishable food items are being collected. Some of the most needed items are peanut butter, jelly, canned soup, canned ravioli or spaghetti, spaghetti sauce (no glass) and cereal.

To coincide with our Food & Clothing Drive, we will be having a district-wide Holiday Spirit Week next week, December 4-8.  Click HERE for the themes.

A Message from our High School Guidance Department to our Current 8th Grade Families

Harrison High School will be holding it's College Credit Plus Parent/Student meeting on Thursday, December 7th at 6pm in the Activity Center.  This meeting is mandatory for all students wanting to participate in the State of Ohio's College Credit Plus program.  Harrison High School is expanding their CCP offerings at the high school and will have a 12 credit option next year in the high school building.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, the Guidance office will be holding TWO other alternative meeting options that you can attend during the morning.  They will be held on December 7th @ 7:45am and February 15th @ 7:45am.  Both morning meetings will be held in the Makerspace/Library right off the HS cafeteria.  There will be a sign-in sheet for attendance at all meetings.

2nd Semester Course Change Requests

Students are starting to inquire about 2nd Semester class change requests for their elective courses.  We do have some classes with limited space available.  If your student wants to request a 2nd Semester Schedule Change, they can do so by using the following links.  Please note, this has to be done from the students “mywildcats” account.  Parents will be unable to complete the form.  Again, please note, these are requests and we can not guarantee course changes.  If you have questions, please contact your child’s guidance counselor at 513-367-4831.

Winter Semi – Formal

At the request of many of our students, we are going to host our first ever Winter Semi-Formal for our 7th and 8th grade students on December 15th from 5:30 – 7:30 P.M.  For many of our families they have asked “What is a semi-formal?”  Great question.  Typically what this looks like for our young men would be nice pants such as khakis or dress pants & and button up shirt and maybe a tie.  For young ladies, it would typically consist of a dress or more business like clothes.  This would be a step below what our students typically wear for the 8th Grade dance in the Spring.  Again, this dance is for 7th and 8th graders only.

If you have questions, please reach out.  The price for the dance will still remain at $5.00 for our students.  Finally, a reminder, students that are on social probation (meaning that they have been suspended or ASA during 2nd Quarter) are not permitted to attend.  If you have questions, please reach out to us directly by calling our school office at 513-367-4831.
