Update

There are a lot of BIG items taking place this week that we wanted to share with families before our next scheduled Parent Email Blast.

Dance

This Thursday night from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. will our first dance of the School Year.  This dance is for 7th and 8th Grade Harrison Junior School Students only.  The dance takes place in the HJS commons.  The cost is $5 at the door, and the them will be "Country or Country Club"  Students are encouraged to dress accordingly, but all 7th and 8th Grade students are welcome to come as they are.  We will have concessions available for students too!  We hope to see them there.

Family Night at The Place

We are very excited that our PTO is sponsoring a night at The Place for our HJS and Harrison High School Students.  Families are welcome to come to this event.  More information can be found here:    Skating Party.pdf

PTO Craft Show

This Saturday, our PTO is also sponsoring their Annual Craft Show!  This event will feature over 100 vendors and take place at The Activity Center.  This is an great opportunity to meet local artisans and find some incredible gifts for the Holiday season.

QUEST

As we close out the first quarter, we are incredibly excited to start our QUEST program. This program is designed to provide experienced based learning for our students to experience learning outside of the traditional classroom, allow them to develop a focus on critical thinking, problem solving and experienced based learning opportunities. This Fall, we have over 30 different Quest opportunities for our students to experience.

What’s New This Year

This year, there are a lot of new opportunities for Quest. Several of these are offsite where students will be transported via a school bus to different locations throughout Greater Cincinnati, Harrison, and other locations. Any student who is leaving the school for a Quest must have a completed permission slip with up-to-date contact information to ensure the safety of our students. Students will receive this permission slip once they are assigned to their specific Quest.

In addition, we are updating our procedures to better accommodate student choices to ensure that each of our students get one of their top selections over the course of the year. We have worked with local businesses and local leaders to get some financial support for our QUEST program. We are incredibly grateful. However, there are some Quests that do have a cost for students who participate in the program. The max cost of any QUEST for students will be $10.

Finally, we have half day Quests and Full Day Quests. This will allow our students to have a variety of different experiences with different levels of depth. Students will need to sign up either for a Full Day Quest or a Half Day Quest.

Quest Day Schedule

Students on October 13th will report to school as normal. Starting at 8:30 A.M. we will begin transitioning to our different Quest programs. Students who are in a full day Quest will be called down to load onto SLSD School Busses. Other students will be dismissed to their QUEST locations. Those students who will be on a Full Day Quest outside of the school will need to pack a lunch or check the QUEST description to see if lunch is included. Students will report back to HJS by 2:00. If your child has a doctor’s appointment or need to leave at some point during the scheduled school day, please instruct your child to select a QUEST that is on campus.

Signing Up For QUEST

All students will sign up for QUEST online. This will take place on Wednesday , October 5th. Students will be instructed to go online during their 2nd Bell class and make their selections. Once students sign up, we will begin the process of hand scheduling students to ensure that we can accommodate one of their TOP 4 choices.

Who is Eligible for QUEST?

All students are eligible to participate in QUEST. However, any student who has an “F” in a class will not be able to participate. Instead of QUEST, any student who is failing a class will report to a group of teachers who will help them complete Make-Up work and attempt to bring their grade up at the end of the Quarter. When will students find out which QUEST they will participate in? Students will find out on Tuesday, October 11th. It will be posted in the HJS commons by the end of the day.

I still have questions, what should I do?

Reach out to our front office by calling 513-367-4831 or email christian.tracy@southwestschools.org

This seems cool, could I, my business, or a connection of mine be able to lead a QUEST in the future?

Absolutely, please let us know. We plan to do a QUEST day at the end of the third quarter, and the two last days of the School Year. We will send a HJS Staff member with you to assist with connecting with our students.

So, Where is the QUEST list?

Students and families can access the QUEST list at the following link:  Quest 2022 - Parent.pdf

Please take a few minutes to review the QUEST document!
