August 16th is just around the corner and there is a lot to celebrate as we prepare for the 2022-23 School Year.  It is hard to believe that a year ago this week we were officially opening our new schools.  We are still so grateful to our community for their support and look forward to welcoming the Class of 2029 to Harrison Junior School.

This year, we want to share with our families up front our plans for communication to families during the school year.  Starting with this email, we plan to send a parent communication every other week.  Each communication will speak to our Mission of Academic and Social Growth.  In addition, we will include upcoming events for families too.  Between these emails, we will use social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) to share items that come up during this time.  Students will hear announcements 3 times a day during the school year. Once to start the day, once prior to lunch, and finally at the end of the day.  Our goal is to provide clear and supportive communication throughout the school year.

If families would like to speak to a teacher, principal, support staff, etc… The expectation is for us to respond with 24 business hours to families.  We are going to work hard to take pride in our communication this school year.

Academic Growth & Social Growth

As we prepare to start the school year, all students should already have a copy of their schedule.  All class change requests were required to be turned in prior to the end of the school year.  Currently, we are unable to make course changes.  However, we do encourage students to come walk through their schedule during the coming weeks as they prepare to school.

Open House will take place for all families on August 9^th.  For our 7^th and 8^th Grade families, this event will begin at 6:00.  Students will be able to pick up an updated hard copy of their schedule.  This updated copy will include their locker number and locker combination.  Students unable to attend Open House may pick up their schedule during business hours after August 9^th.  There will be a line for schedules so please allow a little extra time if you want to pick this up on Open House Night.  We will open our doors starting at 5:30.

For our Incoming 6^th Grade students, they will receive their schedules with locker numbers and locker combinations at Camp Junior Wildcat.  This will take place on August 9^th starting at 3:30.  The link for signups is available here:  https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/details/21180

The cost for Camp Junior Wildcat is $10.  This will be used to provide students' dinner on this night prior to Open House, as well as a few other items for them during the school year.

For our 6^th Grade families, we encourage families to join their children for a Pep Assembly where parents will battle their children competing in several of our Pep Assembly activities.  6^th Grade parents should plan to arrive back at the Junior School and join their student in the gym at 5:30.  We will have mat races!!! And I know that there are some HJS Alumni that are parents that are ready to show them how it was done in the 80’s and 90’s!!!

At the conclusion of the Pep Assembly, we will dismiss Parents and Students to Open House and families will be able to go through their schedule with their child.

School Day

The school day is changing slightly this year to help with our District Wide transportation.  School will start at 7:30 this year and conclude at 2:30.
