Update

Academic Growth
Next week is our MAP Assessment! MAP testing the week of January 25th.   Our teachers have been charged with working to grow our students 1.5 Academic Years during a standard school year.  This is a major checkpoint for us.  This data is important for us too!  It allows us to look at student progress in real time, and work to connect this data to classroom instruction to grow them.  Encourage your students to perform their best next week as they enter the testing window!

Conferences
Here is the link for our conference night:

Conferences take place on February 10th and will be virtual.  Families will login using Microsoft Teams and be able to connect to our teachers.

Social Growth
We are excited about upcoming E-Sports programs that we are starting at Harrison Junior School.  Tryouts are upcoming for limited spots on our Super Smash Brother’s Team.  If interested, please contact Mrs. Couch at Alexandria.couch@southwestschools.org.

In addition to E-Sports, there will be information soon about our Harrison Junior School Drama Production.  We are still putting together final touches, but please be on the lookout.

Student Safety

We have a couple items that we want to share.  We are getting wind of students who are ingesting a product called “G-Fuel”.  This is a product designed for gamers that is loaded with caffeine and is in a powdered form.  Recently, we have had some students who have ingested this, and then have not felt well because the product is loaded with caffeine.  Think of it as the “Jolt Cola” for this generation.  However, since it is a powder, students can get a lot more caffeine in their system quicker than chugging a 2 liter of Jolt Cola.

In addition, we continue to monitor COVID concerns and cases within our schools.  Please remember, students still get quarantined if they have close contacts via lunch since students are not wearing masks.  Mrs. Kinnett is continuing to email/call close contacts in the classroom, and while those students do not have to quarantine, it is still important to monitor symptoms.

Washington D.C. Trip

Our team met today to discuss the upcoming Washington D.C. trip scheduled for March.  At this time, we feel we will need to back up that date until May.  Our goal remains to take students to Washington D.C. this year, and we want it to be an amazing and safe trip for all.  This year’s Washington D.C. trip is now slated for May 23rd – May 26th.  We will have more to come on this in the coming weeks.

Thank you for all that you are doing as parents!
