HJS Update

Posted on: October 18, 2020
Update

It is hard to believe that we are closing out the 1st quarter of the school year over the next two weeks.  Many thought we would not make it!  I want to thank our cleaning staff, students, parents, teachers, support staff, etc… for all their help.  It truly is a team effort!

COVID-19

For the first time in several weeks, I can share that we have less than 10 students quarantined, and of those students, none of their quarantines are a result of a close contact at school.  (This was written on Friday, so things could always change of the weekend).  However, this past week, we did have a member of our classified staff test positive leading to the closure of our kitchen.

As a result, we are modifying our process for breakfast and lunch, but students are ready to go.

HJS Lunch times will be modified to the following:

A Lunch – 10:33 – 11:03.  A Lunch students may return to HJS Café or eat outside for Social Growth Period.
B Lunch – 10:50 – 11:20 (6th Grade Only)  B Lunch students will eat in the WHHHS Café or outdoors during Social Growth Period.
C Lunch – 11:10 – 11:40.  C Lunch students may return to HJS Café or eat outside for Social Growth Period.  C Lunch students will return for the remainder of 4th Bell.

Breakfast will be served at the regular JS time.  Students will enter the doors under the stairs and leave by the same doors.  HJS students will continue to eat breakfast in their classrooms.  We have staff members helping to guide our students are the correct location to the High School.

We have extra staff members donating their time to assist us with supervision and ensuring that our HJS students get all the time they need to eat.  We want to thank the High School for working together with our students, as well as the kitchen staff who will be working extra to help serve both of our buildings.

Academic Growth

Students are jamming in the classroom and the most exciting thing that I see as a Principal is the incredibly high level of student engagement in the classroom.  This is a testament to students and teachers working together!!!  Thank you for all of your efforts.

Conferences are coming up on November 5th and November 12th.  Conferences will take place online and students should look to be present as they will be contacted via Microsoft Teams at the scheduled conference time.

The link should go active sometime today, we are awaiting for final confirmation from the company on when it will go live.

To schedule your conference, please sign up at the link below:   https://harrison-junior-school.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=51232

Virtual Students and Families

Our virtual students continue to grow, but we have a few students who are trying to “Go Dark” on us and not login.  Our virtual teachers, as well as our guidance staff will be reaching out this week to get you on track.  Families are always welcome to try to connect with our virtual teachers via Microsoft Teams and many of our parents are active in participating in the weekly meetings.  All of this is okay and we thank you for being involved.

For our virtual students conferences, we ask that parents contact via their child’s Microsoft Team account your child’s teacher.  They will work to connect with you as some of our virtual teachers also teach Face to Face.

For any of our virtual students who had school pictures taken, they are available in our front office.  Please feel free to stop down anytime between 7:00 – 3:00 and pick them up.

Finally, please see the section on Social Growth for information regarding Winter Sports.
