HJS Summer Update #2

Good Morning,
We hope that everyone is continuing to have a wonderful summer. Things remain busy on campus as the new Junior School continues to fly up. I had the opportunity to tour the building site of the new Junior School and Miami Whitewater Elementary this past Thursday and it was amazing to see the thing. I cannot understate how much bigger it is than our current space. It will be wonderful to have building designed for Junior School students and teachers, and affording our students, teachers, and community the space to do great things! Please continue to check southwestschools.org/facilities and like us on Facebook at facebook.com/SLSDFacilitiesForTheFuture to see updates on the new buildings.
Beyond the new schools, we have spent a great deal of time this past week working through potential scenarios for the upcoming school year. Let’s be clear, our goal is to come back to school and work very hard to get back to normal. We also know that there will be things that look different (lunch process, masks, etc…) We have identified 17 different procedural differences that could occur. For our parents, the most important thing that you can do is to complete the survey that was sent out on Friday. The deadline is this Friday (June 26). This information will be used to help us guide our decisions for the upcoming school year. Please know, we will notify families as we get closer to the upcoming school year about any changes and how it could impact your child(ren). Safety is, and will remain our number one goal. We thank you for your help in this process.
Many of our families have expressed concern that their children may have fallen behind due to COVID-19 restrictions, etc. They have reached out and asked “What can I do to help my child?” The most important thing that you can do is encourage them to read. Spending 30 minutes a day reading will have a tremendous impact on their learning! Books, magazines, etc.. can make a huge difference in this process, and help our students get ahead as the approach the upcoming school year.
It is not too late to donate to the “Inspired by Excellence” campaign that is through our Athletic Boosters. This is the campaign that has helped out in the new turf fields that will be used by so many in our community. This project is all privately run through our Athletic Boosters and uses NO tax dollars. Click HERE for a flyer that features information regarding this campaign and how you can join the team. If you have any specific questions you can contact Mark Meibers at mark.meibers@southwestschools.org.
Speaking of Athletics, we will be publishing information via Social Media as it becomes available, so please check our Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram page for more information.
