Start of School Year Delayed

Posted on: July 16, 2020
Important Information

Thank you, parents and guardians, for the phone calls and emails giving input on the 2020-2021 re-opening plan.  In response to several concerns regarding the masking requirements in the heat, our administrative team has made the decision to delay the start of school for students, both in-person and virtual, until Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

We realize that for some of you, this may change your decision regarding face-to-face or virtual instruction.  The deadline for form completion remains tomorrow, Friday July 17, however, you may go into Final Forms, under the “Re-Opening of Schools” form, and modify your selection if you wish, up until the deadline.  The reason for the urgent deadline is so that we can plan for the proper allocation of our resources, namely staff and transportation.  Final Forms can be accessed HERE.

All other aspects of our plan, both in-person and virtual, remain the same at this time.  (Click HERE for plan details.)  We will continue to update our plan as needed, and inform parents of any changes, in the event of updated guidance or directives from Governor DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health, Hamilton County Public Health, and the Ohio Department of Education.

An updated school calendar will be forthcoming, upon approval by the SLSD Board of Education at their meeting on July 30.  It will be published on the district website once approved.

Again, we appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we continue to strive to provide Academic and Social Growth for All Students, Every Day, even during these unprecedented and unpredictable times.  As we’ve said from the beginning, the situation remains very fluid, and our goal is to balance the safety of our students and staff with meeting the instructional needs of over 4,200 students in a pandemic environment.   As always, if you have questions or need more information, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school.
