Looking at the Week Ahead

Update

Happy Thanksgiving,

Just a friendly reminder that the school office will be closed Wednesday – Friday for the Thanksgiving Break. School will resume on Monday, November 27th.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. This is a great way to keep up on events at school.

Follow us on Twitter @SLSDHarrisonEl

We have had a great start to the new school year. The students are demonstrating our Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership – throughout the day.

Have a great weekend!

Holiday Assistance – 2nd Reminder

Families that are in need and who reside in the Southwest Local School district may be eligible for assistance with food, toys, clothing, and winter coats. Distribution of assistance will be on Saturday, December 16th, but to receive assistance, you must apply. Applications must be dropped off to the Harrison Community Center – 300 George Street, Room 110 on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, November 29th – 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

See attached flyer for further information.

Parking

When dropping off your child in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon please make sure everybody is utilizing the crosswalk. Safety is our number one goal and by utilizing the crosswalk to get across the street students will be safe.

Please do not block the crosswalk area and be especially careful coming into the parking lot off Broadway. Students and parents walk across this area and have the right-away. When entering the parking lot please make sure that no students and parents are coming across the crosswalk.

When in queue to enter the parking lots, please do not block the bus entrance on Elm Street. Parking on Broadway is a perfect location to meet older children after school versus entering the pick-up queue.

Please pull up to the next car when picking up your child in the drop-off area.

Please feel free to park your cars in any available space at dismissal versus waiting in the pull-up line. Cars waiting in cue are blocking other cars from exiting the parking lot.

Smiles Programs – From the School Nurse

Our school has partnered with Smiles Programs. The mobile dentist will be offering in-school dental care. They will be at Harrison Elementary School on December 4, 6, 7, and 8. Please see the attached flyer for additional information and details on registering your child(ren). If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Kinett, our school nurse - 513-367-4161.

Western Tennis Club Student Opportunities

Learn tennis at Western-where their expert tennis professionals teach and help young players succeed while having fun playing tennis! See attached flyer link at the bottom of this email.

 Immediate Pre-School Openings

The Preschool located at Whitewater Valley Elementary has a few openings for students interested in their preschool program. Please call Doreen Reece for more information– 513-728-8538

Building Character

November’s Character Traits:

Week of November 27 – Teamwork – Being part of a team and doing your share

Please reinforce these weekly traits at home and throughout the month.

School Fees

Fees have now been posted to each of your students’ account. Elementary Fees this year are $70.

PTO Planning Meetings

PTO meetings this school year will take place on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 27th.

You can now join PTO. Just your small membership fee of $10 helps us provide services for the kids! This does not require you to volunteer or attend meetings. It is all up to you how much you would like to be involved. If you have any questions, please reach out to a board member.

Joining the PTO is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event.  Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Please click on the link below for the meeting minutes.
