Looking at the Week Ahead

Posted on: September 22, 2023
Update

Today completes our Fall Fundraiser. If you did not turn in your orders today, please send them in on Monday or complete your online orders over the weekend. Your support and help is greatly appreciated.

This week, Harrison Elementary School held three Grandparent’s Days (3rd grade – 5th grade). Kindergarten through second grade will take place in the Spring. Thanks to all the grandparents and special friends who came for the visit. A big thank you goes out to the parents who donated cookies and water along with the Harrison PTO for staffing the refreshments table.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. Pictures from this week are being added to both accounts. This is a great way to keep up on events at school.

We have had a great start to the new school year. The students are demonstrating our Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership – throughout the day.

Have a great weekend!

Scholastic Bookfair

Next week we will offer our students time to shop at our Scholastics Bookfair. Information was sent home with the students last week. The bookfair will be open both nights of Parent-Teacher conferences (from 4 pm – 7pm). If you have any questions, please call the school office.

Calling all Bus Drivers

Southwest Local School District needs bus drivers. If you have driven a bus, have acquired a CDL in the past, or think that it would be fun we will help you get certification and train you. Please call the district office and ask for Mr. Lohbeck at 513-367-4139. Due to the shortage of bus drivers, the district may need to randomly shut down routes for various weeks as early as Thanksgiving.

Bullying Prevention Forum

Junior School administrators will be hosting a 3-part Bullying Prevention Forum beginning on Wednesday, October 18th at the Junior School. The goal is to engage all stakeholders (families, community partners, and the school) in a discussion on how we can bolster our preventative measures in this area. The first meeting takes place on October 18th at 6:30 pm in the Junior School Commons.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are next week (September 26th and 28th) Information on scheduling conferences were sent home with your child. Please contact your child’s teacher if you did not receive any information.

School Fees

Fees have now been posted to each of your students’ account. Elementary Fees this year are $70.

PTO Planning Meetings

PTO meetings this school year will take place on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 25th.

You can now join PTO. Just your small membership fee of $10 helps us provide services for the kids! This does not require you to volunteer or attend meetings. It is all up to you how much you would like to be involved. If you have any questions, please reach out to a board member.

Joining the PTO is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event.  Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Hope to see you soon!

Cafeteria

Students must bring money to purchase breakfast or school lunch. If you believe that you should qualify for free or reduced meals, proper paperwork must be submitted. If you have any questions, please call the school office.

Listed below is the website that families can use to add money to their students' account.

Parking

When dropping off your child in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon please make sure everybody is utilizing the crosswalk. Safety is our number one goal and by utilizing the crosswalk to get across the street students will be safe. The back of the school or dumpster areas should never be used as a drop-off or pick-up location due to the number of buses that come into those areas.

When in queue to enter the parking lots, please do not block the bus entrance on Elm Street. Parking on Broadway is a perfect location to meet older children after school versus entering the pick-up queue.
