Harrison Elementary Update

Posted on: April 28, 2023
Update

Just a reminder that if you still need to order a Field Day T-shirt, the deadline is May 2nd. Orders after this date, unfortunately, will be sent back home.

All extra yearbooks have been sold. HOWEVER, please see the section labeled “2023 School Yearbooks” below if you are still interested in getting your child a school yearbook.

To help celebrate the end of the school year a calendar was designed to highlight a special activity taking place on each of those remaining days. The activity is associated with one of the 26 letters of the alphabet. A copy of the calendar was sent home with each of the students last week and I’ve attached a link to this calendar at the bottom of this email. Please encourage your child to join in with all the daily activities. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the school office.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. This is a great way to keep up on events in school.

We have had a great start to the new school year. The students are demonstrating our Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership – throughout the day.

Have a great weekend!

Field Day 2023 T-shirts

For the past couple of years, we have offered students and their families the opportunity to purchase an End of the Year/field Day t-shirt. Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 26th. Order forms are due back to school no later than May 2nd. Additional order forms can be obtained from the school office. I’ve also attached a copy of the form to the bottom of this email if your child’s form did not make it home or it has been misplaced. If you have any questions, please call the school office.

2023 School Yearbooks

After the yearbooks arrived, we had many students trying to purchase the extra copies that we ordered, and they sold out quickly. I have contacted the yearbook company and have been told that we could place another order. The minimum number of copies is 25 books. The price for a yearbook would be $16.00 for the short run reorder. Beginning Monday, we will take preorders for those who still wish to order a 2023 yearbook. The money will be held at school and returned if we do not reach enough orders for the reprinting. If you would still like to order a yearbook, please send in $16 along with your child’s name and homeroom teacher. We will take order through Wednesday, May 3rd with the hope of reaching our 25-book reprint order amount. Please have your son or daughter bring all orders directly to the school office. Cash or check made out to Harrison Elementary is acceptable.

Social Media – Second reminder – Parents Please Read

Lately we have been made aware of and dealing with an uptick of situations taking place on students’ social media platforms like Snap Chat, You Tube, Twitter, Tik Tok, Instagram, and Facebook to name a few. Self-harm and threats to others are the greatest topics within these students’ conversations. Most, if not all, of these platforms require students to be at least 13 years old or older to sign up for an account. Recently, we informally surveyed our 3-5 grade students and now know that almost half of every class has students on some of these accounts and are on these various social media platforms daily. We are suggesting and highly recommending that all parents routinely check their child’s social media accounts daily. Please reinforce with your children that if “they see something, hears something, then they need to SAY SOMETHING”. Just a friendly reminder that elementary school students are allowed to have a cell phone, but they must remain in their school bags while at school and during school hours.

Summer Camps

Attached to the bottom of this email is a PDF file of athletic summer camps sponsored through the Athletic Boosters. Contact information for each of the clubs is also listed if you have questions. A paper copy of the offerings was sent home this week. These are great opportunities to fill up some of the summertime off from school.

Progress Book

The Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student Mobile App v1.0.2 is now available in both app stores.

This release will now support the ability to receive push notifications for Missing Assignment and Low Mark alerts once upgraded. Once upgraded, the app will prompt parents and students to enable push notifications on their device if they wish to receive them. This update also contains enhancements to the calendar view which allows users to further filter and collapse the calendar to see more assignments for a chosen day.

Parents and students will be prompted to update their app on their device.

Here is a video on how to set up Missing Assignment and Low Assignment Marks Notifications in the Frontline Parent and Student mobile app v1.0.2.
