Harrison Elementary Update

Posted on: March 10, 2023
Update

Thanks to all of the students, families, and staff members who participated in our Family Reading Night last evening. Check out our Facebook page for pictures of the event.

Last week you should have received an email asking you to participate in a public engagement campaign to be better understand the wants, needs and opinions of every member of the community when it comes to our school district. The first step in this process is a districtwide survey. Please see the link below to participate. Everybody’s voice and opinions are needed.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. This is a great way to keep up on events in the school. New pictures have been added this week.

Community Engagement Survey – Your HELP is NEEDED

In the Southwest Local School District, we work hard to engage with parents and staff to better understand the needs of the district.  We strive to give your children the best possible educational experience - and to do that we need feedback from you.

Last week, we launched a public engagement campaign to better understand the wants, needs, and opinions of every member of the community when it comes to our school district.  We are beginning this effort with a districtwide survey.  Your participation will assist us in making critical decisions and will guide our planning moving forward.

You can participate in our survey by clicking HERE- it should only take you a few minutes.

Once you have completed the survey yourself, we highly encourage you to share it with others in our community - the more feedback we get the more effectively we can serve you.

Find out more about our Community Engagement process, including our upcoming series of Town Hall Meetings, by visiting southwestschools.org/community.  If you are interested in attending one or more of the town halls, you can RSVP by clicking HERE.

Thank you in advance for participating in this process - it truly is important for the future of our district.

Title 1 Yearly Family Survey - Parents please click on link below

The Title One Parent Survey will be used to assist us with future planning for parental involvement activities and events at Harrison Elementary. Your comments and concerns are very important, since they influence the direction programs will take in the future. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.  Please complete one survey per family by Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Transportation Surveys Due back to School

Just a friendly reminder that transportation intent letters for next school year were sent home this week.  Please mark any necessary changes for next school year and return those forms to the school office as soon as possible so that transportation can start the several month process of routing for next year.  While we understand that some changes may be necessary to transportation requests between now and the start of next school year, this does help our transportation staff get a head start on some of these requested changes, planning and adjusting bus routes, and looking at the potential need for additional bus drivers - which are hard to find right now.  We already have two full-time and one part-time bus driver position open for next school year.  If you know anyone interested in becoming a bus driver, please have them reach out to Adam.Lohbeck@southwestschools.org or Amanda.Schaible@southwestschools.org for details.

Joey the Can-Do Kangaroo – Book

Several students, after attending the author visit last week, have asked about purchasing a copy of Joey the Can-Do Kangaroo. Listed below is a link for the book.

Absences and Tardies

Lately we have experienced a lot of tardies and student absences. It is that time of the year, but our State Truancy Laws do not account for seasonal absences. Letters and court referrals are computer generated after key number of hours missed. Please follow up with Ms. Miller, our Dean of Students, with any questions or concerns.

Building Character

March’s Monthly Character Trait is Compassion – Compassion is helping and being kind to people who are sad or struggling.

Character Effect:

Week 3/13: Forgiveness- Forgiveness is defined as, I believe that everyone deserves a second chance. I can let things go.

Week 3/20: No School

Week 3/28: Friendship- Friendship is getting along well with others and your friends can count on you.

Please reinforce these weekly strengths at home and throughout the month.

Help Wanted – Crossing Guard – THIS IS A PAID POSITION!!!!!

Bus Passes

Due to the number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student. Please decide for transportation once the students have arrived home. If bus situations change throughout the year, please complete a new bus route information sheet, and submit it to our office to be processed at District Office.
