Harrison Elementary Update

On behalf of the students and staff at Harrison Elementary School we would like to wish everybody a safe and fun-filled Winter Break.
We have had a VERY busy final week of this calendar year. On Monday and Tuesday, we had the Natural History Museum hands-on assemblies and on Wednesday the Holiday Extravaganza from Church of Fire. Please check out our Facebook page for pictures.
The school office will be open off and on throughout the holiday season. Please call before making the trip here. Hours are posted on the front door but are subject to change.
Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. This is a great way to keep up on events in the school.

We have had a great start to the new school year. The students are demonstrating our Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership – throughout the day.
Have a great weekend!

Building Character
December’s Character Trait is OWNERSHIP:
Ownership is the ability to do the right thing without needing to be asked. Having ownership means that you are accountable for your actions.
Along with our month-long Character Trait of Ownership we will be covering the following topics
December 5: Love of Learning/Creativity
Love of Learning is defined as being excited about discovering new things.
Creativity is defined as; I can think of lots of ways to solve problems and use my imagination.
December 12: Self-Control
Self-Control is defined as being able to stop, wait and manage your emotions.
Please reinforce these monthly traits at home and throughout the month.
Absence Letters
If a parent call is made to the school office in the morning explaining WHY a student will not be in attendance, a letter is not necessary to come to the school when the child returns. If no parent phone was made, THEN a parent note is necessary. If you have any questions, please call the school office
Dismissal Phone Calls
Dismissing 680+ students every day is a monumental task. Please try to avoid calling the school office to confirm changes in pick-up only in the event of emergencies. Transportation forms are on file, and this should be how the students are being dismissed daily. If changes are needed for a specific day, please try to send a note into the school to your child’s teacher in the morning. Keeping this as consistent as possible makes dismissal run smoothly without questions on how a student is going home.
District Substitute Teachers Needed
Please see the attached flyer to gain additional information about becoming a substitute teacher or aide in the district
Lunch Charges
Please make sure that all lunch charges are paid up as soon as possible. We have quite a few students for some reason have needed to charge their lunches or have run out of funds on their accounts. If you have any questions, please call the school office and ask for the cafeteria.
Help Wanted – Crossing Guard – Still Needed
Harrison Elementary School is looking for a Crossing Guard starting immediately. This Crossing Guard position location is in front of the school building helping to cross students and parents along with traffic control. The Crossing Guard will be needed one hour in the morning (8:15 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.); and one hour in the afternoon at dismissal (3:20 p.m. – 4:20 p.m.).

Bus Passes
Due to the number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student. Please decide for transportation once the students have arrived home. If bus situations change throughout the year, please complete a new bus route information sheet, and submit it to our office to be processed at District Office.
