Harrison Elementary Update

Posted on: October 7, 2022
Update

Just a friendly reminder that next week is the end of our first quarter of school. Please make sure you are checking your child’s Progress Book grades to see that all assignments have been turned in. Students will be only in school next week Monday through Thursday. A teacher record's day will take place on Friday without students.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. This is a great way to keep up on events in the school.

We have had a great start to the new school year. The students are demonstrating our Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership – throughout the day.

Have a great weekend!

Mobile Dental Van is Coming

The Mobile Dentist is coming to Harrison Elementary October 24-28. Permission slips went home earlier this week. Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings. Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low-cost self-pay option is available. Return the permission slip to school or sign up online at: https://www.myschooldentist.com/HGSLOH_sch

Building Character

October’s Character Trait is Trust/Trustworthiness: Be honest, be reliable-do what you say you will do, have the courage to do the right thing, be loyal, build a good reputation, and don’t deceive.

Please reinforce these monthly traits at home and throughout the month.

Parking – Friendly Reminders

When dropping off your child in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon please make sure everybody is utilizing the crosswalk. Safety is our number one goal and by utilizing the crosswalk to get across the street students will be safe. The back of the school and near the school dumpster should not ever be used as a drop-off or pick-up location due to the number of busses that come into the area.

When in cue to enter the parking lots, please do not block the bus entrance on Elm Street. Parking on Broadway is a perfect location to meet older children after school versus entering the pick-up cue.

Please pull up to the next car when picking up your child in the drop-off area.

Please do not block the crosswalk area and be especially careful coming into the parking lot off Broadway. Students and parents walk across this area and have the right-away.

PTO Planning Meetings

You can now join PTO online simply by clicking the link below. Just your small membership fee of $10 helps us provide services for the kids! This does not require you to volunteer or attend meetings. It is all up to you how much you would like to be involved. If you have any questions, please reach out to a board member.

https://harrisonelementarypto.membershiptoolkit.com/home

Joining the PTO is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event.  Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Next PTO meeting will be October 10, 2022 at 7 pm

Hope to see you soon!

COVID and Sickness

Just a friendly reminder that if you child is sick to please keep them home and monitor their symptoms. If you have any questions, please call the school office, and ask for Nurse Kinnett.

Bus Passes

Due to the number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student. Please make arrangements for transportation once the students have arrived home. If bus situations change throughout the year, please complete a new bus route information sheet, and submit it to our office to be processed at District Office.

Online Student Forms

Don’t forget to complete your child’s online forms. If you have questions or need help with this, please contact the office. We have staff members and computers throughout the day available to help you with this process. Please make sure you have all needed information (phone numbers, addresses, medical information) handy before beginning. If information (email addresses, phone numbers, addresses etc.) change throughout the year, please make sure you update this information in your child’s account.
