Harrison Elementary Update

Update

Happy Friday Everybody,

Just a friendly reminder that we will have Parent-Teacher Conferences on Tuesday and Thursday. If you still need to schedule a conference, please contact your child’s teacher.

Yesterday will practiced a Classroom Lockdown. Students remained in their classroom along with their teachers. Doors were checked and students remained together in a section of their classrooms with the lights turned off. The next drill will start with a classroom lockdown and then lead to a full evacuation. We do these drills periodically so if they are needed the students and staff understand what needs to take place and can implement them quickly. It is our hopes and prayers that we never need to utilize these procedures for real.

There is one week left for our annual Magazine and Cookie Dough fundraiser. Funds raised will be used to bring programs into the school to enrich our students (assemblies). If you have any question or need additional ordering forms, please contact the school office.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. Pictures from this week are being added to both accounts. This is a great way to keep up on events in the school.

We have had a great start to the new school year. The students are demonstrating our Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership – throughout the day.

Have a great weekend!

Morning Drop-off

Just a friendly reminder that students should NOT be dropped off for school prior to 8:40 am. We have students arriving at 8:10 am and are not being supervised. The safety of each of our students is very important. If you child is walking to school each morning please review the time they are leaving your house so that they are not arriving before 8:40 am.

Transportation

With routes in full swing and drivers finding their groove in terms of routines, we recognized that some route times were a few minutes off from what was projected by our software.  We were able to update all bus stop times in our recent route reviews with drivers.  The most accurate, up to date times have been uploaded to Final Forms and are available for families to view at this time.  While most bus stop times stayed within a minute or two of their projected times, some stops have changed by a handful of minutes one way or the other.  For the most part, these adjusted times are already in place so no changes in times will be noted.  This most recent upload would simply confirm the times that we are operating routes "in reality" now that buses are on the road - barring an unexpected event or substitute driver on the route.  Thanks for your flexibility and understanding on transportation as we started the school year!

Parking – Friendly Reminders

When dropping off your child in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon please make sure everybody is utilizing the crosswalk. Safety is our number one goal and by utilizing the crosswalk to get across the street students will be safe. The back of the school should not ever be used as a drop-off or pick-up location due to the number of busses that come into the area.

When in cue to enter the parking lots, please do not block the bus entrance on Elm Street. Parking on Broadway is a perfect location to meet older children after school versus entering the pick-up cue.

Please pull up to the next car when picking up your child in the drop-off area.

Please do not block the crosswalk area and be especially careful coming into the parking lot off Broadway. Students and parents walk across this area and have the right-away.

PTO Planning Meetings

You can now join PTO online simply by clicking the link below. Just your small membership fee of $10 helps us provide services for the kids! This does not require you to volunteer or attend meetings. It is all up to you how much you would like to be involved. If you have any questions, please reach out to a board member.

Joining the PTO is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event.  Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Next PTO meeting will be October 10, 2022 at 7 pm

Hope to see you soon!

Due to the number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student.
