Harrison Elementary Update

Posted on: October 10, 2020
Update

Once again this morning (Friday 10/9) I awarded two students a gift card for early order turn in for our annual Magazine/Cookie Dough Fundraiser. Students receive a slip with their name on it for each order that is submitted. Packets were sent home on September 22nd and orders can be taken up till October 14th. If you have any questions or need additional ordering forms please contact the school office. More information is included below.

This weekly email blast goes out to all of the emails (over 750) that have been submitted to the school through your Final Forms registration and information program. There are still around 100 students whose forms are NOT complete. Last week, after I emailed my weekly blast, around 25 email addresses came back undeliverable. Throughout the week I’ve tried to clean up the incorrect email addresses so that this doesn’t continue to happen. IF you have changed your email address lately, please remember to also change it in each of your children’s Final Forms account.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. Pictures from this week are being added to both accounts. This is a great way to keep up on events in the school. I’ve attached a flyer with all of the great ways to stay connected with Harrison Elementary and the entire school district to this email.

Water Bottles

Students are permitted to bring their water bottles with them, EVERY day. Due to COVID-19, the drinking fountains have been turned off. A water bottle filling station is available right outside the nurse’s office and students are given permission to refill when empty. We had about a dozen water bottles donated to the school for those students who cannot bring one from home. This initial supply has been exhausted. We are asking for companies who might have business water bottles collecting dust to consider donating them to the school for our students. If you have any unused water bottles please contact the school office.

Friday, October 16th – “Pretend” Remote Day

Next Friday, the students and staff will be simulating a classroom “Remote Day”. Students WILL be at school. The goal of this day is for students and staff to practice what it would be like in the event we would need to switch to remote learning down the road. Students WILL be in their classrooms but learning and activities will be simulated remotely through the use of their individual computers. The more the students and staff feel comfortable with this way of learning the easier it will be if we need to make the switch. If you have any questions please let your child’s teacher or myself know.

REMINDER - Virtual Students’ Recorders and Novels AND School Pictures

- School pictures have arrived. Please stop by the school office to pick up your packets. Picture retake day is scheduled for November 4th.

- If you child is taking their classes virtually and are in kindergarten, first or second grade your recorders are in and available in the school office. Many parents have already stopped by but several instruments are still waiting to be picked up. Fourth and Fifth grade novels are both NOW available in the school office. Please stop by and pick them up.

- Just a friendly reminder to all virtual families – please begin getting into a routine to submit all assignments and logs to your child’s virtual teacher on their due dates. Work and hours not logged will turn into days absent. If you have any questions about submitting assignments/logs please contact your child’s virtual teacher.

Cooler Temperatures

As we experience cooler temperatures please make sure names of your child are inside their clothing in the event they are misplaced.

Marching Kittens Baton

This year we will still have our afterschool Marching Kittens Baton and Flags Club. Registration will take place on Wednesday, October 21st. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are soon approaching (October 20th and 22nd). Parent – Teacher conferences will be held virtually and not face to face this fall. Registration codes to schedule your conference through Signup Genius were sent home this week. If you did not receive the link to schedule a virtual conference please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible. It is very important that each student has a Parent-Teacher Conference twice a year.

School Pictures

Fall pictures were sent home this week. If you would like your picture retaken our scheduled Picture Retake Day is November 4th. If there is a problem with your particular order please call the number printed on the envelope. If you have any additional questions please call the school office.

PTA Planning Meetings

The PTA would like to invite you to join them for their monthly planning meeting. Planning meetings take place the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in the school library or cafeteria depending on the number of people attending for social distance purposes. The next meeting will be Thursday, November 5th.

In your child’s school folder this week you should have noticed an invitation to join the PTA. Please consider doing this and getting involved. Due to COVID-19 many of the usual planned activities have been postponed but your support is greatly needed.

Joining the PTA is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event.  Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Hope to see you soon!
Harrison PTA

Bus Passes

Due to the limited number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student. Please make arrangements for transportation once the students have arrived home. If bus situations change throughout the year please complete a new bus route information sheet and submit it to our office to be processed at District Office.

N*A*M*E*S

Please make sure your child’s name is printed somewhere on his/her lunch boxes. Many boxes are the same and after lunch it is very hard deciding whose lunch box is whose at the end of the day. If your child’s lunch is in a brown bag please also include his/her name

Online Student Forms

Don’t forget to complete your child’s online forms. If you have questions or need help with this please contact the office. We have staff members and computers throughout the day available to help you with this process. Please make sure you have all needed information (phone numbers, addresses, medical information) handy before beginning. If information (email addresses, phone numbers, addresses etc.) change throughout the year, please make sure you update this information in your child’s account.

Parking

When dropping off your child in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon please make sure everybody is utilizing the crosswalk. Safety is our number one goal and by utilizing the crosswalk to get across the street students will be safe. The back of the school should not ever be used as a drop-off or pick-up location due to the number of busses that come into the area.
