Posted on: September 25, 2020
Update

Another great week behind us.

On Tuesday we kicked off our annual Magazine/Cookie Dough Fundraiser. Packets went home that day and orders can be taken up till October 14th. Special drawings will begin NEXT Friday for any orders turned in before October 14th. Students will have their names placed in a raffle for each order turned in electronically or in person by 9:00 am on Thursday. Gift cards will be awarded to lucky student during the Friday morning announcements. If you have any questions or need additional ordering forms please contact the school office. More information is included below.

Don’t forget you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created and we are trying to inactivate them. I have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. Pictures from this week are being added to both accounts. This is a great way to keep up on events in the school.

Today is the FIRST Spirit Day of the school year. Please check out our Facebook page for pictures throughout the day.

We have had a great start to the new school year. Dealing with extreme hot temperatures has been our major challenge so far. The students are demonstrating the Four Core Values – Trust, Respect, Ownership and Leadership– throughout the day.

Have a great weekend!

Virtual Students’ Recorders and Novels

  1. If you child is taking their classes virtually and are in kindergarten, first or second grade your recorders are in and available in the school office. Many parents have already stopped by but several instruments are still waiting to be picked up. Fourth and Fifth grade novels are both NOW available in the school office. Please stop by and pick them up.
  2. Just a friendly reminder to all virtual families – please begin getting into a routine to submit all assignments and logs to your child’s virtual teacher on their due dates. Work and hours not logged will turn into days absent. If you have any questions about submitting assignments/logs please contact your child’s virtual teacher.

Cooler Temperatures

As we experience cooler temperatures please make sure names of your child are inside their clothing in the event they are misplaced.

Water Bottles

Students are permitted to bring their water bottles with them, EVERY day. Due to COVID-19, the drinking fountains have been turned off. A water bottle filling station is available right outside the nurse’s office and students are given permission to refill when empty.

Face Covering Clarification

Neck gaiters meet the definition of a “FACE COVERING” per the Governor’s mandate. Yes, we are allowing them. No, they are not the best version of a face covering, but allowable. Cloth masks or paper masks that we are handing out are a much better option, but we are allowing gaiters. Students and staff have been real troopers this week wearing their masks throughout the building. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are soon approaching (October 20th and 22nd). Parent – Teacher conferences will be held virtually and not face to face this fall. Registration codes to schedule your conference through Signup Genius will be sent out shortly.

Playground Equipment

Thanks to all of the wonderful families who found items on our Amazon Wish list for playground equipment. Each grade level was given their bag of items this morning. Thank you Harrison PTA for getting this all together for our students. If you are still interested in purchasing some supplies for recess, the link is located below.

PTA Planning Meetings

The PTA would like to invite you to join them for their monthly planning meeting. Planning meetings take place the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in the school library or cafeteria depending on the number of people attending for social distance purposes. The next meeting will be Thursday, October 1st which include a presentation from our Superintendent, Mr. John Hamstra. Meeting starts at 6:30 pm.

In your child’s school folder this week you should have noticed an invitation to join the PTA. Please consider doing this and getting involved. Due to COVID-19 many of the usual planned activities have been postponed but your support is greatly needed.

Joining the PTA is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event.  Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Hope to see you soon!
Harrison PTA

Bus Passes

Due to the limited number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student. Please make arrangements for transportation once the students have arrived home. If bus situations change throughout the year please complete a new bus route information sheet and submit it to our office to be processed at District Office.

N*A*M*E*S

Please make sure your child’s name is printed somewhere on his/her lunch boxes. Many boxes are the same and after lunch it is very hard deciding whose lunch box is whose at the end of the day. If your child’s lunch is in a brown bag please also include his/her name

Online Student Forms

Don’t forget to complete your child’s online forms. If you have questions or need help with this please contact the office. We have staff members and computers throughout the day available to help you with this process. Please make sure you have all needed information (phone numbers, addresses, medical information) handy before beginning. If information (email addresses, phone numbers, addresses etc.) change throughout the year, please make sure you update this information in your child’s account.

Parking

When dropping off your child in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon please make sure everybody is utilizing the crosswalk. Safetyis our number one goal and by utilizing the crosswalk to get across the street students will be safe. The back of the school should not ever be used as a drop-off or pick-up location due to the number of busses that come into the area.
