HJS Update

Update

There are an amazing number of things happening at the New Harrison Junior School.  We are completing one of the largest projects ever undertaken in our School Community, and we are incredibly excited to share the new facilities with members of our community, families, and most importantly students.

With all of the moving pieces that are taking place, as well as some very important updates, we want to update our families with the latest information.

Schedules & Students Walkthroughs (Academic & Social Growth)

We are working hard to complete our schedules and have them ready to go for our students and families.  We had planned to mail them, but with our new partnership with SWOCA (Internet Service Provider) we are still working through a few final pieces.  Our building will be open from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 1st for the Ribbon Cutting (tours will begin following the ceremony).  In addition, we will hold our Open House on August 9th.  There is additional information about Open House later in this email.  Families can continue to check ProgressBook and Abre for schedules.  Access them through the Parent Portal at mywildcats.me.  They will become available on those platforms first, but we will have hard copies for all students on the first day of school and at Open House.

Last week, we spoke to students being able to walk through the building during business hours.  At this time, we must pause this option until we have completed the full review process with our local police, fire, and government agencies.  Once we have received full approval to open the building to students and families, we will let folks know.  With safety being our number one goal, we want to ensure that we have all of our “t’s” crossed and “I’s” dotted in the process.  Stay tuned for the most up-to-date info for your student.

Ribbon Cutting (Community Outreach)

Our Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening will take place on Sunday, August 1st at Harrison Junior School.  This will be our community’s first opportunity to see our new school.  We would love for you to join us!!!  The event begins at 6:00 P.M.  This event is Open to All!

School Supplies Lists (Academic & Social Growth)

Please click HERE to see our supply lists for our teachers.  If your child’s teacher(s) are not listed, students should be prepared with something to write on, and something to write with on the first day of class.

Please note, you will not be able to do much with this list until you receive your child’s schedule later this week.  So please keep this email, or find the supply lists at hjs.southwestschools.org.

Social Emotional Learning (Academic & Social Growth)

This year, as a building, we are rolling out a new program to help support social-emotional learning needs.  This includes not only our students, but supports for parents, teachers, and staff.  This program is a partnership with The Character Effect and will be an extension of our PBiS program.  The goal of this program is to focus on self-awareness, self-control & interpersonal skills at school and in life.  Building through strong social-emotional skills, students will be more prepared to be successful within their daily lives.  This program will provide major benefits both academically and socially.  Be on the lookout in our email blasts for information to help you at home too!

Open House (Academic & Social Growth)
Our Open House will be on August 9th.  This event will feature a short presentation for families, and then the opportunity for our students and families to tour the school, try their lockers, and prepare for the school year.

Presentations are slated to take place just inside the main entrance on the Learning Stairs, once complete families are welcome to walk through the school and tour the facility.

The schedule will be as follows:
