HJS Update

Posted on: July 14, 2021
Update

It is hard to believe, but the summer is about halfway complete, and for many of our students they will begin being at Harrison Junior School on a semi-daily basis starting August 1st!  The building is coming along quickly, and while there is still a ton going on in the construction process, we are incredibly excited to welcome all our students and families to our new school!

There are several very important items that we want to share with families, so please take a moment to read the information below:

New School Start Date & New School Hours (Academic & Social Growth)

For the upcoming school year, students will begin on Tuesday, August 17th.  Please make the changes on your school calendar.  In addition, there has been an update to our school day.  Our doors will open for students starting at 7:00 A.M. each day.  Our official school hours are 7:40 – 2:35.

Schedule Distribution (Academic Growth)

For our students, one of the most exciting times is when they get their schedule.  Combine this with a new building and we know that many of our families are going to be thrilled to come up and walk their schedules.  We will be mailing all families their schedules on August 2nd, and students will be able to walk the building any day prior to the start of school from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

We are also working to set up a few evenings for our families who work during our normal business hours too.  Please know, the first several days of school are going to be devoted to students learning our new expectations for the buildings, as well as working with them to get to their classes and meet their peers.

Welcoming New Members of our Leadership Team (Academic and Social Growth)

Harrison Junior School is incredibly excited about two new folks on our leadership team.  With Mrs. Lee & Mr. Rouster departing to the Elementary Schools, we are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Kelly Young as our Guidance Counselor to partner with Mrs. DeRisi.  Mrs. Young is joining us from White Oak Middle School where she has been a Guidance Counselor the last several years.  She brings a wealth of knowledge to support the social-emotional needs of our students and will be a tremendous asset to us at HJS.

In addition to Mrs. Young, Mr. McBee will be returning to HJS as our Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.  Mr. McBee started at HJS as a Science Teacher and has spent the last several years working as the High School Assistant Principal at Harrison High School.

Please take a moment to welcome them both to HJS!

Ribbon Cutting (Community Outreach)

Our Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening will take place on Sunday, August 1st at Harrison Junior School.  This will be our community’s first opportunity to see our new school.  We would love for you to join us!  The event begins at 6:00 PM.

Spirit Wear for Students and Families (Social Growth)

We have partnered with “The Den” which is run by our Harrison Wildcat Athletic Boosters.  They have put together Spirit Packs for our students for the upcoming school year.

If you would like to place an order, please click on the following link and it will take you directly to the ordering page:  Harrison Junior School Spirit Pack | The Den Spirit Shop

Athletic Information (Social Growth)

As we shared earlier, Mr. McBee will be taking over as our Athletic Director at Harrison Junior School.  There is a ton of information regarding fall athletics, and if you have questions you can email him directly at brandon.mcbee@southwestschools.org.

Harrison Junior/Senior High School PTO (Academic and Social Growth)

One of the best ways for parents to remain involved with their children is our PTO.  We are excited to welcome our families into this organization.  Details on an event being planned by the PTO on August 5 can be found HERE.

Open House

As we approach the end of the summer, we wanted to share that we will be hosting our Annual Open House on August 9th.  We are still working on the specifics to this event, and will send information out to families, as well as post on Social Media early next week.  In addition, look for information regarding school supplies, and prepping for the upcoming school year.

As always, we remain thrilled to welcome our families back to school!  If you have questions, please call our office at 513-367-4831 or email me directly at Christian.tracy@southwestschools.org.

Please continue to enjoy your summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone in August!!!
