5th-6th Grade Transition Meeting Follow-Up

Dear 5th Grade Families,

I wanted to say thank you for joining us at our recent Incoming 6th Grade Parent Night, held on February 15 at Harrison Junior School.  We were thrilled to have you!  Great news, each of you passed our Pop Quiz!  If you were unable to attend, we are sorry that we missed you, but we wanted to share a few key items with you from the presentations.

First, we welcome you and your family to HJS.  We are excited to be on the Middle School journey with you over the next three years!

At the meeting, one of the key pieces we spoke about was scheduling for the upcoming school year.  Some key points to be aware of are the following: 

  1.       Students learned about elective courses (Band, Chorus, Art, Physical Education, Design and Modeling, Apps & Career Exploration, and STEAM).  Families can learn more about these options by watching a brief video created by our teachers on this link:  Harrison Junior School - 5th to 6th Transition (padlet.com)
  2.       Any student that was unable to attend our event on February 15 received the Elective Registration sheet at school the next day.
  3.       Mrs. Lutz and Mrs. Young will be going back to your child’s elementary school in the coming weeks to help with online registration and discuss the Petition to Upgrade form. 
  4.       Students who are identified as TAG will receive information about enrichment opportunities through TAG STEAM and/or TAG Leadership. 
  5.       Students will come for a tour and receive their schedules in May, and we will do a Welcome Orientation called Camp Junior Wildcat in August.
  6.       Please encourage your children to get involved in some sort of extra-curricular activity.

For each of families we do have a little homework for you too.  Over the next couple of weeks, please sit down with your child and review the videos on the Padlet (Harrison Junior School - 5th to 6th Transition (padlet.com)).  These are designed to inform our students about Middle School and help support parents as their children continue to grow up.
