Important Information for Crosby Families

Important Information

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe we are in the last week of Brain Bag #2. There will be one more Brain Bag to get us through the remainder of the year. Teachers are working hard on this last Brain Bag to included more hands-on/engaging activities for students since we understand the end of the school year can be difficult to keep students focused, even more so now that they are home. This time of the year, students look forward to reflection projects, field trips, and field days. Teachers are trying to mimic these things as best they can in Brain Bag #3.

See below for details on Brain Bag #2 turn-in, Brain Bag #3 pick-up, and other dates and information for the remainder of the year.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions!

WEEK OF APRIL 27- MAY 1

CORE VALUES CHALLENGE

We hope that you continue to live out our four core values, despite our distance! During the upcoming week take pictures highlighting students performing acts of TRUST, RESPECT, OWNERSHIP, and LEADERSHIP. Post them on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram using the hashtag #ConnectingWildcats or email to mia.neckel@southwestschools.org using Core Values Challenge in the subject line. Please also include your neighborhood or area of residence. Let’s see which community can best represent what it means to be a Wildcat!

FOOD DISTRIBUTION

We continue to provide food for families in need every Monday from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm in the car-pool lane. Bagged meals are provided for breakfast and lunch for all five days of the week. If you have children that attend different schools, you may pick up meals at whichever location is closest for you. For example, if you have a child at Crosby and a child at Harrison Jr. High, you can pick both meals up at Crosby. It will be helpful if you have your child's lunch number, especially if they attend a different school than you are picking up at.

PTA FLOWER PICK-UP

For those of you that participated in the PTA Flower Sale, you may pick up your orders Tuesday, April 28th from 3:00 -5:00 pm in the back of the school. Orders will be lined up alphabetical by last name. Due to social distancing rules, the PTA will not be providing volunteers to help load. Any questions regarding flower pick up should be directed to crosbyelempta@gmail.com.

MENTAL HEALTH

Our Mental Health Team is here for you. If at any time you or your child need additional support, contact your child’s teacher and they will have our school counselor or psychologist get in touch with you.

BRAIN BAG #2 TURN-IN and BRAIN BAG #3 PICK-UP- Monday, May 4th

BRAIN BAG #2 TURN-IN: Monday, May 4

Brain Bag #2 drop-off will be in the FRONT parking lot. Large plastic tubs, labeled with grade levels will be available for you to drop your child’s packet in. Please make sure your child’s name and teacher’s name is on the front cover. There will also be a box for library books, if your child has books that need to be returned.

Instead of physically dropping off your child’s packet, you may scan it and email it to their homeroom teacher instead. See directions at the end of this email on how to scan using your iPhone or android.

It has been reported that the virus lives on paper for up to 48 hours, therefore packets will stay in tubs for 2 days before we sort and return them to teachers. Teachers are expected to have grades for Brain Bag #2 in Progress Book by May 13.

BRAIN BAG #3 PICK-UP / FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Monday, May 4

Ways to get Brain Bag #3 (Every grade level will be 50 pages or less.)

  1. Brain Bag #3 will be available on-line at https://www.southwestschools.org/crosby-elementary-school/ to print from home on or before May 4.
  2. You may pick up Brain Bag #3 on May 4th in the car-pool lane AFTER you drop off Brain Bag #2 in the FRONT parking lot.
    1. We are going to use the same numbers from BB#2 to make copies for this round. If you printed your own last time, and plan on picking one up at school this time, please send an email to patty.vancleve@southwestschools.org, so that we can make sure we have the appropriate number of copies available.

To avoid long wait times, we recommend (not require) arriving during the times below. If you need to come at a different time, that is fine, we are just trying to eliminate everyone coming at once. Those who are picking up food, it will only be available from 9-12. If you are unable to pick food up during this time, please call the school office to make special arrangements.

All TURN-IN will take place in the FRONT parking lot.

All PICK-UP (Brain Bags and food) will take place in the CAR-POOL lane.

DATES and INFORMATION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR

We are working on a plan for students to get their personal belongings that are still in their desks and lockers. Teachers will be bagging up the items, and we will also be putting PTA t-shirts, yearbooks, artwork, PTA Reflection certificates, and any other items in the bags. We will assign grade levels different times to drive through to pick up items and say good-bye to their teachers. We are looking at May 19th and 20th. More details will be coming in my next email.

Physical Brain Bag #3 turn-in will be May 22 even though work is required to be assigned through May 27th. Teachers will assign activities on the last 2 days that will not involve worksheets that need to be turned in. You may also choose to scan Brain Bag#3 and email it to your child’s teacher instead of physically turning it in.

For those of you with 5th graders, we are planning a special event for them since they will not be able to participate in their originally planned celebration. Again, I will give more details in my future emails, just wanted to let you know we are planning something special.
