SAFETY

COLD AND FLU SEASON

With the upcoming cold and flu season upon us, please remember to keep students home when they are sick to help prevent spread. Students must be free of fevers, vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours, without the use of medication, before returning to school. Please contact the school if your student will be out. Let's stay healthy and safe this winter!

SCHOOL DELAYS AND CLOSINGS

When inclement weather occurs, our school messaging system will be used to distribute information. You can also listen to local TV and radio stations for information on Southwest Local Schools. Any delay or closing is also posted to the school district website: www.southwestschools.org as well as on our Crosby Facebook page. Also, HALF-DAY KINDERGARTEN parents need to be advised that whenever school is delayed, AM Kindergarten is canceled.

ACADEMIC GROWTH

OHIO STATE TESTING

Students in grades 3-5 will take the Reading Ohio State Test between March 27 and April 6. Please avoid making appointments or scheduling vacations during this time. Students tend to perform best when they are taking the assessment with their teacher and in the regular classroom environment.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Kindergarten registration is open.  We will once again offer a limited number of tuition-based full-day options. The number of full-day classrooms will depend on space and enrollment numbers. Full-day spots are assigned by the date stamp in Final Forms.

STUDENT FEES

All students in half day Kindergarten – 5th grade have a school fee set by the Board of Education, which is used to purchase educational materials and other items used by each student. The fee for school year 2022-23 will be $55.00. Full day kindergarten is tuition based. Checks should be made payable to “Southwest Local School District” and can be sent in with your student or fees may be paid online. If you need assistance, please reach out via email to patty.vancleve@southwestschools.org.

SOCIAL GROWTH

KIDS’ HEART CHALLENGE

As we wrap up the Kid’s Heart Challenge, we would like to thank everyone who donated to help us reach our goal. Our grand total is $11, 533! Congrats to Mrs. Seipelt’s class for collecting the most donations, totaling $1,663, which has earned them a pizza party. Also, we would like to recognize our top fundraisers: Lucas L $851, Desmond H $497, and Olivia N $462. Because of all of your generosity, people like you and me can continue to be heart healthy! Special thanks to Mrs. Biddlestone for organizing this endeavor!

ACCEPTANCE WEEK AND DR. SUESS’ BIRTHDAY

The week of February 27 – March 3 is Acceptance Week. We will be recognizing this week that our very own Harrison alum Raileigh Legner started!

Monday, February 27: Mix Match Day- where two different socks to show we are all unique in our own way.

Tuesday, February 28: Tie Dye- Rock your tie dye to represent those with an exceptionality.

Wednesday, March 1: We are ONE- Wear your school spirit to show your school is one student body.

Thursday, March 2: Take the Pledge- We are asking for you to take time to take the pledge to spread the word INCLUSION. Also, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday! So, dress as your favorite book character or your best Dr. Suess apparel.

Friday, March 3: Inclusion Friday- Wear anything yellow to show that you understand: Awareness + Change = Acceptance and together we can make a change!

FOURTH GRADE GRANDPARENTS’ DAY

Fourth grade Grandparents’ Day will take place on March 10th from 1:45-2:45. If students are being released with their grandparents, a note from the parents must be given to the teacher in advance. If siblings are going home with those grandparents, a note must be given to their teacher in advance as well. At 2:45, there will be an announcement for any student who has written permission to leave with their grandparent to report to the cafeteria. The office will NOT be calling students individually from classrooms at that time.

SPRING PICTURES

Only those purchasing pictures for Spring will be photographed.

Students should ask their teacher for an order form if interested!
