SAFETY

COLD AND FLU SEASON

With the upcoming cold and flu season upon us, please remember to keep students home when they are sick to help prevent spread. Students must be free of fevers, vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours, without the use of medication, before returning to school. Please contact the school if your student will be out. Let's stay healthy and safe this winter!

SCHOOL DELAYS AND CLOSINGS

When inclement weather occurs, our school messaging system will be used to distribute information. You can also listen to local TV and radio stations for information on Southwest Local Schools. Any delay or closing is also posted to the school district website: www.southwestschools.org as well as on our Crosby Facebook page. Also, HALF-DAY KINDERGARTEN parents need to be advised that whenever school is delayed, AM Kindergarten is canceled.

ACADEMIC GROWTH

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Kindergarten registration begins February 1st at midnight. We will once again offer a limited number of tuition-based full-day options. The number of full-day classrooms will depend on space and enrollment numbers. Full-day spots are assigned by the date stamp in Final Forms. Please do not register early, that will NOT hold you a spot and you will need to restart registration.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Teachers will be sending home information to schedule your winter conference. Conferences will take place on February 2 and 7. Teachers are happy to accommodate face-to-face, virtual, or phone conferences, whichever best fits your schedule. If you haven’t heard from your child’s teacher, please reach out to them via email or by phone!

SPELLING BEE

Congratulations to Stuart Hall for winning this year’s Spelling Bee. Stuart and his brother Seth battled it out for a Crosby record of 39 rounds! Also, congratulations to our third place Paxton Kief and all our Spelling Bee participants.

STUDENT FEES

All students in half day Kindergarten – 5th grade have a school fee set by the Board of Education, which is used to purchase educational materials and other items used by each student. The fee for school year 2022-23 will be $55.00. Full day kindergarten is tuition based. Checks should be made payable to “Southwest Local School District” and can be sent in with your student or fees may be paid online. If you need assistance, please reach out via email to patty.vancleve@southwestschools.org

SOCIAL GROWTH

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION KIDS HEART CHALLENGE

We are getting ready to begin another year of the American Heart Association: KIDS HEART CHALLENGE! This year, our school will be learning about staying strong in body and mind, we’ll get moving with fun activities, meet kids with special hearts, and raise funds for the health of all hearts.

Our kick-off assembly will be on February 3rd and we will be collecting donations until February 23. Our goal is $10,000!

Download the Kids Heart Challenge App or visit heart.org/KHC to register today and earn your own BE THE TORCH WRISTBAND so you can help light the way! Once you've registered, start Finn’s Mission and complete the challenges. As a family you can help to create a community of lifesavers by learning the lifesaving steps of Hands-Only CPR. It’s quick, easy, and fun! Click here for our school link http://www2.heart.org/goto/CrosbyElementarySchoolHarrisonOH. Thank you for keeping more hearts beating strong!

SECOND GRADE GRANDPARENTS’ DAY

Second Grade Grandparent’s Day will be held from 1:30-2:30 on February 24th. Grandparents will get to enjoy a song, share a snack with their grandchild, and complete a craft. Students are free to go home with their grandparent IF they have a pre-arranged note. Also any siblings that are going to be leaving with grandparents need to be PRE-ARRANGED. A note should be sent to any teacher of a student that will be leaving at 2:30 with the grandparent. We will not be calling individual students down to be dismissed. There will be ONE announcement made at 2:30 for any student with a note to report to the cafeteria. More information will be coming home from the homeroom teachers.
