COVID UPDATES

Thank you for keeping your child home when the are not feeling well this year. At times it may seem like we are being overcautious, but our goal is to stay open throughout the entire school year, and to do that we need to take every possible step to prevent an outbreak. Keep reminding your child of the importance of wearing their mask, using good hand hygiene, and staying socially distanced.

ALICE DRILL

This Thursday (10/22), we will be holding a whole school ALICE drill. This stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. Students will first practice what to do in a lockdown situation, and then we will practice an evacuation. This is not meant to be a scary situation, just as we are required to hold monthly fire drills, we are also required annually to prepare students for an intruder situation. Our teachers will be sensitive about the situation and make students feel safe, but I wanted you to know in case they come home and talked about it.

THIRD GRADE STATE TESTING

This week, all third-grade students are required to take the Fall 3rd Grade ELA State Assessment. We must test students within 5 consecutive school days. Our testing window will run from October 20-October 26. Your child’s third grade teacher will inform you of the actual day they will be testing their class. Please be sure students get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.

Virtual students are also required by law to take this assessment. Your virtual teacher should have reached out to you about scheduling a time for the assessment.

MOCK REMOTE LEARNING DAY

On Thursday, October 29th we will be having a Mock Remote Learning Day at Crosby Elementary in Grades 1-5. Students will attend school that day, but teachers will plan all activities for the day digitally as if students were at home. This will help students learn digital expectations as well as let our teachers discover holes that might be missing if we were forced to go remote. This event will also help create better ways to keep students who are quarantined connected to the classroom.

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

Due to not having volunteers in the building to help with changing into costumes, we ask that your child wear his/her costume to school on Thursday, October 29th. The student must be able to sit, walk, breathe, see and hear with the costume on for the entire school day. Inflatable costumes are not permitted.

CONFERENCES

All fall parent-teacher conferences will be conducted through video conferencing or phone calls on November 2nd and 10th, whichever you prefer. Your child’s teacher will be sending out a sign-up genius or other format for you to sign up for a time on one of our two conference nights.

Due to the more frequent interaction with virtual parents, conferences can be arranged as needed with the virtual teacher.
