DID YOU KNOW?

Our “Did You Know?” series continues this week with the first of five videos exploring the ins and outs of finances in the Southwest Local School District. Through all of our community engagement, we've gotten a lot of questions on this topic - and we're delivering with answers and more information! We encourage you to take just two minutes to learn how SLSD spends funds to ensure that our kids receive the quality education they deserve.

You can watch our first School Finance Video HERE.

Big takeaway - Over 90% of SLSD spending is directed to PEOPLE. That includes our teachers, extracurricular programs, and other opportunities for students. We are a people-based business that is always focused on investing directly in students and teachers!

SAFETY

CELL PHONE POLICY

With field trips, field day and other end of year events coming up, we just want to remind parents that we have a no cell phone policy at Southwest Local Schools and at Crosby Elementary. Students are not permitted to use cell phones, smart watches, or any other electronic communication devices on school property or at off-site school sponsored events. The use of these items by students will result in discipline. Also, if you are supervising any of these events, please do not permit students to use your device.

ACADEMIC GROWTH

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

During the week of May 6-10, we celebrate the amazing teachers at Crosby Elementary! The PTO does a great job showering them with love, but feel free to write your child’s teacher a note of appreciation or have your child write one of their own.

AIMSWEB TESTING

Students in Grades K-3 will be given the Spring Benchmark Assessment in Aimsweb the week of May 6-10. This is an exciting time of year for us to see the incredible growth our students have made!

Our fifth grade Perennial Math team competed in a virtual competition last Saturday. Forest Lewis placed 3rd in the individual round and Team Colton (Colton Dunham, Stuart and Seth Hall, Mathew Leininger and Caiden Varney) placed 3rd in the team round. They will move on to the National Championship the week of May 13th. A special thank you to their coaches: Mr. Markewicz, Mrs. Hunter, and Mrs. Brown!
