Crosby Elementary School has been designated as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.  The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.  Only 367 schools nationwide received such a distinction, including 16 from Ohio.  Crosby is one of only two schools from Greater Cincinnati to earn this honor.

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.  The Education Department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, student subgroup scores and graduation rates:

- Exemplary High Performing Schools – These are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

- Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools – These are among their state’s highest performing in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.

“The staff of Crosby Elementary is grateful and humbled to be named a 2020 Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School,” says Crosby Principal Joanne Aghotte.  “This recognition affirms the hard work of our educators, families, and community to create a learning environment for all students that address both their academic and social needs. We look forward to celebrating this prestigious recognition!”

Crosby Elementary is the second school from the Southwest Local School District to earn this national honor in the last three years.  Miamitown Elementary School achieved the distinction in 2017.  Crosby will be honored at the 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony, which will be held virtually in November.
