Update

Harrison High School Families,

I would first like to thank all of you for the outpouring of support that you have shown for our students, faculty and staff. Yes, it has been difficult to balance all the moving pieces that our students and teachers have had to deal with concerning COVID. To say the least, they all have been amazing in their attitude and resilience. I am truly impressed.

Our teachers have been working hard to balance two classrooms, one face-to-face, and the other, working with students who are home due to quarantining.  Our goal has been to engage and communicate.  Daily, our teachers have come up with new ways to connect and encourage our students to finish strong, although this is not to say there haven’t been bumps along the way.  Thanks again for your support, understanding and patience as we work through the changes.

- Due to the number of quarantines, we have decided not to hold semester final exams for the 20–21 school year. Semester grades will be calculated by averaging the first and second quarter grades together to get the semester grade. This information has been communicated to all students. The end of the semester for face to face students is December 18th.

All virtual students (Accelerate), your semester will end on December 20th at midnight. Please have all your material that has been assigned to you, turned into your virtual teacher by this time.

- First semester report cards will be posted in progress book on January 15th.

- We are currently re-working the high school master schedule for second semester.  This will include a number of students that will be returning from virtual learning to face-to-face. We will have students’ second semester schedules ready for them when they return from holiday break.

- Any 10th or 11th grader who took the PSAT/NMSQT will be able to view their scores online starting December 7th. Students will get an email from The College Board, and can log in at that time. Please contact your child's Guidance Counselor with any questions. Information has been posted to the student’s class Teams page.

- Clarification:  At the moment, a Snow Day is an off day for both face-to-face and virtual students.  If for some reason we would need to change this decision and work remotely, we will communicate that to you.  For now, if this happens, enjoy your day off!

- Any sophomores interested in attending Diamond Oaks next year, please see the attached presentation from Great Oaks. Click HERE to view the presentation (with audio) in PowerPoint.  Note that you must have PowerPoint installed on your device to view this.  Alternately, you can click HERE to view the presentation in PDF format, but please know that there will be no audio.  Applications are due to the Oaks by February 9th. Please see the Oaks website for more details.

- The annual SLSD Food and Clothing Drive begins Monday and will continue all next week.  Please join us in helping our neighbors in need this holiday season by donating canned goods and other non-perishable food items, as well as winter clothing items including coats, hats, gloves, mittens, and boots.  Students should bring in items to their first bell classes all next week.  The class that collects the most items will receive breakfast courtesy of Student Council, or another reward of the class' choosing.  Members of the public can bring these items to the high school front lobby next week.

- Keep up to date on meetings, events, and other ways to get involved at hhs.southwestschools.org.  Follow all things Harrison Wildcats Athletics at harrisonwildcats.net.  Go Cats!

Sincerely,
Matt Lindley, Principal WHHHS
