WHHHS Update - April 2, 2020

Posted on: April 2, 2020
Update

Students and Parents,

I would first like to thank all of you for your patience and flexibility during this transition time to remote learning. Our teachers have been working hard to create a balance in their classes, putting into consideration every family’s unique situation and hardships. Thanks for being part of our TEAM!

Monday Morning, April 6, will be the start of our High School schedule (Click HERE to view).

Below are a few clarifications for all students:

  • During the week, you should be checking each one of your classes Teams page and mywildcats email on a daily basis, for updates or further clarifications from your Teachers.
  • On the schedule attached you will find that there are two periods a day.  The periods designated for that day will be considered office hours for that teacher and class. This does not mean you will be in the class for two hours. You will check in at the beginning of the bell and the teacher will give you directions, possible instruction and a schedule for the week. This could include a Teams video chat (Please be aware of your background).
  • On Tuesday and Thursday, you will see that there are designated support bells. You do not have to check into these bells. These bells can be used to contact teachers for support or to continue to work on any class you wish.
  • You may email or Teams message your teachers during the school day five days a week. Please be patient for a return message.
  • We understand that some families are struggling with other issues during this time. Our teachers will be as flexible as possible, and are willing to help.

Below are some Questions and Answers that may be helpful to both Students and Parents:

Q: What if my computer is not working?

A: There is a bin in the front lobby of the HS, drop it off with a sheet of paper with Name, Phone number and Computer problem. We will contact you when it is fixed. Reminder that you can log onto any device for Teams including your cell phones.

Q: We are in need of food, where should we go?

A:  We will be prepping school lunches for any student who wants it.  They are available on Mondays and Thursdays between 9:00 and 12:00.  Families pull around behind the Middle School and we will load it in your car for you.  Please bring your child’s student ID.  In addition, our food pantry is available at the Middle School to all SLSD families and they can stop by anytime Monday-Friday between 8:00 and 2:00.

Q: When does the High School Schedule Start?

A: Monday April 6th

Q: Does my child have to log on during their scheduled time?

A: Yes, but they likely will not be online for a full 2 hours, they will check in with their teachers and be able to ask any questions they may have.

Q: Do I need to log on during the support bell?

A: No, only if you need support.  Students can contact and get a response from their teachers quickly during those scheduled times.  In addition, students will be able to video conference to get support if needed.

Q: I am struggling with One Note.

A:  If you go into your personal OneNote and open the file needed, it immediately opens for you

Q: I don’t have the internet?

A: Behind the Middle School near the modulars we have set up a wifi area where students can download the material for the week or day. There are signs outlining the area. We are also working on areas in the community to gain access. We will let you know when that is available.

Q: What if I want a work permit?

A: Drop off your work permit at the HS front lobby, you will be called when it is complete.

Q: What If I know someone that is not getting emails from the High School?

A: This is likely a result of their Final Forms not being updated.  They can go to www.southwestschools.org and click on the parent portal and go through the steps.  If they have already done this, they should email roger.mcgregor@southwestschools.org for resolution.

Q: Are we coming back to school?

A: We are following the Guidelines from Governor DeWine’s office.  At this time, we are closed through April.  We will update families with more information as soon as we get updates.

Q: Will we Have Graduation and Prom?

A: We are working on alternate dates and will update everyone when those plans are more concrete.

Q:  Where can I learn more on social media?

A:  Follow Harrison High School on Facebook @WilliamHenryHarrisonHighSchool and on Twitter @harrisonwildcat.  You can also follow the Principals on Twitter:  Mr. Lindley @SLSDLindley, follow Mr. Niehaus @SLSDNiehaus, follow Mr. McBee @SLSDMcBee, and follow Mr. Meibers @wildcatsofhhs.

Q:  Where can I find video updates from the administration, as well as "virtual" episodes of "What's Up, Wildcats"?

A:  Like and subscribe to our YouTube channel at hhs.southwestschools.org/video

I hope all is well.
