Dear Whitewater Valley Elementary Parents & Families,

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal at Whitewater Valley Elementary. My name is Mia Neckel and I am very excited to be joining such a wonderful team of students, parents, teachers and staff! I was fortunate enough to work at Whitewater Valley last year as an instructional coach, so am already very familiar with many of the students and families. Education and working with children is my passion. As the parent of two children, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents and guardians are every child’s first teacher and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s academic, social, and emotional needs are met. It’s exciting to see children through their parent’s eyes, so please understand that my office door will be open and I welcome visitors at any time!

Our school has been very fortunate the past four years to have my colleague, Mr. Adam Lohbeck, as its principal. I know it is tough to lose such an awesome administrator; I also know I have giant shoes to fill. Please understand it is my intent to keep the traditions and amazing programs that have been effective the past several years in place. We do not need to slow the progress and growth our school has made just because a new principal is joining the team. In fact, my goal is to make as few changes as possible year one while continuing to support and enhance the amazing work already in place.

Before joining the team at Whitewater Valley Elementary, I served the Southwest Local School District in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 22 years. I started out teaching first grade at Hooven Elementary, then taught both first and second grade at Crosby Elementary. After earning my second Masters Degree from Miami University in School Leadership, I transitioned out of the classroom and became the Title I Coordinator at Harrison Elementary. Most recently, I’ve been working with your young Wildcats and the teachers at Whitewater Valley as an Instructional Coach to help live our district’s mission, “Academic & Social growth for ALL students, EVERY DAY!”

So why am I sharing all this? I just want you to know I honor the work already happening at Whitewater Valley Elementary and my past has prepared me well to serve students, staff and families. I learned early in life what it means to work very hard to make sure we focus our efforts on student growth and success. I have definite long-term ideas for making Whitewater Valley even more awesome than it already is, but this year we will focus on a few very simple goals:
• Providing our students with a rigorous, engaging, and positive school experience
• Implementing family curriculum and technology education nights
• Creating a safe and caring school environment free from disruption

Your children are the heart of our school. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day, let them know they are valued, and have a special place in our school community. I am unbelievably humbled by this opportunity and honored to be the principal at Whitewater Valley Elementary. I very much look forward to getting the 2018-2019 school year started!

Truly,
Mrs. Mia Neckel
Whitewater Valley Elementary Principal
