Miamitown Update 04-06-2020

Update

Dear Miamitown Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are beginning today our fourth week away and out from school. The teachers and staff are here for all of you, so please let us know if you need anything or have any questions. We will get through this together! This email will be rather lengthy in size. Please take a few minutes to read through it in its entirety. Many questions will be answered.

As of today, Governor DeWine has all Ohio Schools under at Stay at Home Order through May 1st. Therefore, we will continue to implement distance learning packets and materials. If this changes, we will be sure to notify you quickly.

One of the best resources right now is the school/district websites - https://www.southwestschools.org/ or https://mes.southwestschools.org

By now you should be working on Week #2 packet of materials. Listed below are some very important upcoming dates.

Brain Bag #1 (Weeks 1 & 2) need to be returned to school NEXT Monday, April 13th between the hours of 8 am – 2 pm – Grade level boxes will be outside the bus dock doors.

Brain Bag #2 (Weeks 3, 4 & 5) can be picked up at school NEXT Monday, April 13th. These materials will not be due back to school until May 4th (either with the child if we are back at school physically, or in drop-off boxes outside the doors once again).

Brain Bag #2 will also be posted on the school’s website beginning April 13th for those families who would like to print out their own copies. Brain Bag #1 are still due back to school by April 13th – if you would rather email the entire, completed packet back to the teacher that would also be acceptable.

Brain Bag #1 material will sit in the collection boxes for at least 48 hours in order to kill off any potential viruses. Teachers will pick up the packets after April 15th to score the assignments. Grades will be posted in Progress Book by Wednesday, April 22nd. Students will be receiving a score for each subject area worth of assignments (Packet grades separately for Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies and Art).

All meetings, after school activities and field trip for April have been cancelled. Once we are back, we will evaluate which activities can be rescheduled.

School Office – The school office will be open from 8 am – 2 pm each weekday. The entire building will be closed this coming Friday for Good Friday.

Help is Available – If your family needs help with food, it is available for pickup from 9-Noon on Mondays and Thursdays.  Please click HERE for more information.  Call the school office with further questions.

Mental Health - Your Mental Health Team is thinking of you at this time. Included in the next Brain Bag is an optional Mental Health resource to use as needed. If you feel overwhelmed, take a break, choose a square and complete the activity. If you feel like you need additional individual support, contact your child’s teacher and they will contact your school’s counselor or psychologist.

Internet Access - Remember, if you are in need of internet access, we have a "drive-in internet cafe" set up behind the Junior School near the modular classrooms. It's available anytime, and you don't even have to get out of your car!  Check our Facebook and Twitter pages for pictures of the exact location.

#ConnectingWildcats - Due to the overwhelming popularity of  our #ReconnectingWildcats week, we are going to keep it going this week (Apr. 6-10) with #ConnectingWildcats week! Remember to post your pictures to Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the hashtag #ConnectingWildcats.  Check out our Facebook and Twitter for the video with the theme days.
