Important Information for Miamitown Families

Posted on: April 30, 2020
Important Information

By now, most of you should have heard that Governor DeWine has determined that schools in Ohio will be working remotely for the remainder of the school year. The students WILL NOT be going back to school in our building for the rest of this school year. The teachers will continue to provide Brain Bags, remote learning opportunities and enrichment through Thursday, May 27th

Listed below is some VERY important information along with key dates and times for the rest of the school year. PLEASE read it very carefully and call the school office if you have any questions.

Brain Bag #2 Turn-in and Brain Bag #3 Pick-up Information

Monday, May 4, from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm will be our collection day for Brain Bag #2. Grade level boxes will once again be located outside the gym doors for you to deposit Brain Bag #2. Please make sure that your child’s name and teacher is printed on the front page of the packet. At this time, you will also be able to pick up the final set of student work, Brain Bag #3. This material, Brain Bag #3, will be due on Friday, May 22nd. It is very important that students continue working on their packets and if possible, contact their classroom teachers via virtual meetings, Class DOJO or through email. I have heard many great stories about many of our Miamitown Elementary students embracing the remote learning process.

If a parent would prefer sending back their child’s completed work, to the teachers, scanned in a PDF that would be acceptable. Sending the teacher snapshots of the completed work is also permissible. Email addresses are available in the staff directory on the Miamitown Elementary School website.

Brain Bag #3 will also be available, for home printing, on the school’s website on Monday, May 4th.

Student Supplies Pick-up – Please read carefully

Miamitown Elementary is scheduling student supplies pick-up in late May.  Each grade level has been assigned a day of the week between May 18th – May 27th to pick up the items that were left in their desks, lockers, cubbies, and handing outside of their classrooms. Teachers are in the process of gathering and labeling your child’s personal items for pick-up, along with any other items that the teachers or office has to distribute.

Your child’s teacher will ONLY be at school during the grade level day and time to pass out the supplies. This is a perfect opportunity for closure with the students and their teachers. If you have school or classroom library books at your house, you can bring them with you at this time. As you can see from the schedule below there is also one evening date if you are unable to make it to school during the day. Please know that your child’s teachers will not be at the evening collection times.

Our staff members will be practicing social distancing, wearing face masks and gloves. We ask, when you arrive, that you do the same. Coned-off areas will be set up to separate each family during the collection process.  You will pull around by the Gym doors and staff members will bring the items to your car.

Here is the pick-up schedule:

Monday, May 18 – Kindergarten – 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Tuesday, May 19 – 1st Grade – 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Wednesday, May 20 – 2nd Grade – 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Tuesday, May 26 – 4th Grade – 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Wednesday, May 27 – 5th Grade – 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Brain Bag #3 Turn-in

Teacher Help – Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teachers if you need assistance. If you do not generally communicate with them through Class DOJO or emailing, a complete list of contacts is provided on the Miamitown Elementary website.

Kindergarten Registration – If you have a kindergarten student starting school in August 2020, please begin the registration process on the Southwest Local School District website. After the initial packet of information is completed online, an in-person meeting will take place. If you have any questions, please call the school office.

School Office – The school office will be open from 8 am – 2 pm each weekday.

Help is Available – If your family needs help with food, please call the school office.

Your Mental Health Team is thinking of you at this time. If you feel like you need additional individual support, contact your child’s teacher and they will contact your school’s counselor or psychologist.

Internet Access - Remember, if you need internet access, we have a "drive-in internet cafe" set up behind the Junior School near the modular classrooms. It's available anytime, and you don't even have to get out of your car!

Finally, please continue practicing social distancing, wash hands frequently and stay at home whenever possible.  Please feel free to email me pictures of activities that the students are doing so that I can post onto our social media. Once I receive several pictures, I will post them on the Miamitown Elementary Facebook and Twitter pages.
