Important Announcement Regarding School Meals for 2022-2023
For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has offered waivers to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program allowing these entities to offer ALL students breakfast and lunch at no charge. These waivers expired in June and will no longer be available for the coming school year. Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, districts will return to more normal, pre-pandemic operations that include charging students for lunch.
Families will once again be asked to complete and submit a Free/Reduced meal application if they believe that their students may qualify for free or reduced meal prices based on the income of all household members. This application is now available and should be completed ASAP if families believe that they may qualify free or reduced meal prices. If your family would also like academic fees waived or holiday church help, please be sure to mark those boxes of the application accordingly.
This application can be completed in two ways:
- Families can visit the Food Service Department page of the SLSD District Website and click on the “Apply Online” icon right above the My Lunchbox tab or simply utilize this direct link to the application: ()
- Families may also pick up a paper copy of the Free/Reduced Lunch application from their school office or from our District Office and return it to our Food Services Department located within District Office at 10800 Campbell Rd.
All applications received in person or online prior to Monday, August 8th will be processed prior to the start of the school year. Applications received after that date will be processed in the order that they were received, though processing before the start of school can not be guaranteed. Meal prices for the upcoming school year will remain the same as before the pandemic, despite increased costs, and continue to be the lowest in the area. These prices will be re-evaluated after the 2022-2023 school year and may be adjusted at that point if needed.
