Update

Happy New Year!

Harrison Junior School is excited to welcome our students back and get back to school!  This year, we have some exciting things planned for our students and community and we are looking forward to continuing to connect with our parents and community.  Tomorrow, we will be meeting with each of our students by grade level to start the 3rd Quarter.  Each quarter, we take time to review expectations, discuss what is going well, and areas we need to work on.  Tomorrow, the focus will be on getting off to a good start, understanding how our words impact others (bullying), reviewing expectations in reporting bullying, planning for next school year, and much more.  We enjoy this opportunity to connect with our students.

Just a few quick items and reminders as we return back to school tomorrow (January 3rd).

It is the Start of the 2nd Semester, Where does my child go if they have new classes?

All students should report to their first bell.  Our first bell teachers will take a moment and have each student log into their Progressbook.  If their first class was a semester elective, students will have the opportunity to meet with their guidance counselor and pick up a new schedule prior to the start of the school day in the Junior School Media Center.  Only students with a first bell elective should pick up a new schedule from the counselors, all other students should go to their first bell.

MAP Assessment is coming up this month

Our Winter MAP assessment will take place the week of January 23rd – 27th.  Please encourage your child to do their best as this is a great way to help us drive instruction and meet them academically at their level!

Planning for 2023-24

Later this month and in early February, we will be working with your child and your family to help set up their schedules for next school year.  Be on the lookout for more information.  Current 8th Grade families may start getting communication from the High School Team.  We will all be working together to ensure that your child is on the right track and well prepared for their next steps.

Coping with Tragedy

Over the break, SLSD was devastated by the loss of one of it’s teachers at Miami Whitewater Elementary.  Some of your students may be returning and starting the process of coping with the passing of a former teacher.  Please know that our team will be partnering with our Miami Whitewater to provide extra support for their students and staff as they return.  If your child needs extra support, please do not hesitate to contact our school counseling department to get some extra support.
