7th & 8th Grade Open School Family Night

Posted on: October 22, 2019
Open House

Dear Parents,

We are incredibly excited about our Open School Family Night for 7th and 8th Grade families coming up this Thursday. This event will take place from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and run throughout Harrison Junior School. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher(s) and learn about many of the great things happening at HJS. This night will look a little different than a “traditional” Open House as we are later in the school year and are constantly looking to evolve our programming to best support the needs of our parents and students! With this in mind, we will have the following items and experiences available for our parents:

· We will present our new Math and ELA programs for parents to help them better understand the new materials being used. The ELA presentation will take place at 6:15 in Mr. Rettig’s room (Room 104). This presentation will last 10-15 minutes. For families interested in learning about our new Math program, “Illustrative math”, we will have a presentation in Mrs. Green’s room (Room 005) at 6:35.

· For families looking to be active, our Physical Education teachers will have PE activities happening in our gym. In addition, they will share information regarding our upcoming “PE with Parents Day” which will take place on November 15th.

· In our front lobby, we will have opportunities for parents and students to purchase Spirit Wear, Join PTA, and ask general questions regarding Harrison Junior School.

· Throughout the building, we will have staff members stationed for parents to assist with questions. This includes our “Counselor’s Corner” where parents can meet Mrs. DeRisi and talk about our guidance services. In addition, we will have one of our tech team members to help assist in answering questions that parents may have regarding devices and help parents login to Progressbook and ABRE.

· In our Junior School Café, we will have coaches and advisors stationed for parents who want to get involved in after school programming. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about different clubs and athletic organizations.

· In addition, any parent who drops off a Canned Good will be entered into a raffle for a gift card. These can be dropped off in the front lobby.

· Art will be displayed throughout the building and a mindfulness coloring activity will be available in the art rooms.

For families joining us, please understand that we will NOT have the Modular classrooms open, nor will we have the High School open. The focus of our evening will be meeting with teachers, learning about our after-school activities, and learning about our new Math and ELA programs.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact us directly at 513-367-4831 or email christian.tracy@southwestschools.org.
