Peak Steps Down from Board, Leaves Legacy of Service

Linda Peak

A lifelong friend of education has stepped down from the School Board.  Linda Peak, a 13-year member of the Southwest Local School District Board of Education, submitted her resignation, effective February 18, 2021.

Prior to her service on the Board, she worked in our school district for 20 years.  Her children and grandchildren have graduated from, or are currently attending, William Henry Harrison High School.

A true servant leader, Peak led in a humble, selfless manner, with every decision guided by what was best for students.  Her legacy of service is cemented through her work on some of the most significant projects in school district history, namely helping to guide a successful bond issue campaign and contributing to the design process of three new elementary schools and a new middle school.

Mrs. Peak had been facing some health complications in recent months, challenges she has now put behind her.  Still, she felt it best to pass the torch to her successor.  Although she is no longer on the Board, Linda continues to be a tireless advocate for our schools and community.

“There is much more work that Board members put in – that most never see… a ton of behind-the-scenes activity that requires heavy time, thought, and effort,” said SLSD Superintendent, John Hamstra.  “Fortunately for us, she is not going anywhere… just moving on to a different season of life.  She will be around – at sporting events, in the schools, and at Board meetings.”

Applications are currently being accepted to fill her seat.  The deadline to apply is 4:00 PM on February 26 in-person at Harrison High School, and the potential replacement will be voted on at the March 18 Board meeting.
