Important Information for Car Riders

Carpool

Dear Crosby Families,

Crosby Elementary has made adjustments to our car-rider procedures. Please be patient as we adjust to this new system. While there are sure to be some challenges with these new procedures, we believe it will ultimately improve the car-rider process and help to keep our students and families safe.  Please click HERE to view the maps which are described below.

MORNING DROP-OFF

All morning car riders will be dropped off in the BACK of the building between 8:00-8:25 a.m. It is important that we use the whole space and NOT wait to drop your child off at the door. The front car should pull to the end of the yellow painted line, near the modular entrance. All students will be required to have their temperature taken and hands sanitize before entering the building. Please do not pull away until your child has been checked and cleared to enter the building

MID-DAY KINDERGARTEN PICK-UP and DROP-OFF

AM Kindergarten ends at 11:15 a.m. This year AM Kindergarten pick-up will take place in the FRONT of the building. Parents will create two horseshoe rows around the parked cars. There will be staff there to help direct you. Please either stay in the car or stand outside the car door and we will send students to you. For the safety of students, all students must be loaded before cars will be released. There will also be 2 buses that will be loading at the end of the sidewalk area. Buses will be released before the car line.

PM Kindergarten drop off will take place in the FRONT of the building. Students may be dropped off starting at 12:05 p.m. PM Kindergarten starts at 12:15 p.m.

END OF DAY PICK-UP

Due to the increased amount of car riders and the need to social distance, all car riders CANNOT be released at one time onto the loading dock. Therefore, we have created a staggered pick-up for students.

If your child is usually a bus rider at the end of the day, but needs to be a car rider for any reason, you will need to contact the office before 2:30 p.m. and your child will be dismissed to the loading dock at 3:25 p.m.

If you pick your child up after school on a regular basis, and haven’t already done so, please sign up for a time slot at  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0449AAA829AAFF2-carriders . It is important that you arrive as close as possible to your assigned time because students will ONLY be sent out at that specific time. If you arrive before your assigned time, you will have to circle around and get back in line because your student will not be outside ready to load and we cannot hold up traffic.

The time you signed up for, is the time you should arrive at school. The first group will be able to enter the lot at 2:40 p.m. All cars are expected to be in rows and parked BEFORE 2:50, when the first group of students are released. You will pull around to the back of the school and form rows of three, starting closest to the loading dock. We will fill 10 rows with 3 cars each. All cars will stay parked. Students will be released from their classrooms and will load into the 30 cars. Once all cars have been loaded, the row closest to the loading dock will be dismissed first, each row after will follow. There will be staff to help direct traffic.

As rows are flowing out, we will be filling in the next group of 30 cars. Those students will then be released, loaded into all cars, and will follow the procedure above. This will continue until all groups have been released.

What Students Need to Know

On the first day of school, students will receive a colored tag attached to their bookbag, showing the group/time they are to be released from their classrooms. We will be using the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink and gray. At the appropriate time, your child’s teachers will say, “The red group of car riders may go to the loading dock now.”

Staff will hold students on the loading dock as you are pulling into your rows. Students should be looking for your car, so that when released, they know where to go. If someone is picking them up in a car they will not recognize, it is ok for you to get out of the car - standing by your door - waving to get their attention. Staff will also be available to help students find their way to their cars. If for some reason your child does not come to the loading dock and we are releasing cars, we will ask you to pull off to the side so that we can get the next group loaded on time.
