HJS Evacuation Update

Posted on: April 4, 2023
Alert

This morning, just after 10:00 AM, we evacuated Harrison Junior School due to reports of the odor of smoke in the building.  Although our fire alarms did not activate, we made the decision to evacuate the building out of an abundance of caution.  Students were relocated to indoor areas at Miami Whitewater Elementary and Harrison High School.  All students and staff members were safe at all times.  After a thorough investigation by the Harrison Fire Department and Whitewater Township Fire Department, no fire was discovered, and it was determined that the odor of smoke was environmental and originated off of our property.  At this time, students and staff members have returned to the building and the school day is continuing as normal.

We are grateful to the Harrison Fire Department and Whitewater Township Fire Department for their prompt response.  The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority.
