8th Grade Parent Meeting Regarding High School Transition

Posted on: January 8, 2019
Parent Meeting

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

It seems like just yesterday you’re standing at the bus stop, biting your nails and looking down at your baby.  You’re thinking “I can’t believe they are old enough to go to kindergarten!”  Fast forward 9 years and you’re standing next to your baby (possibly looking UP) and thinking “I can’t believe they are old enough to go to high school!”  Well, the time has come.

The Guidance Office is very excited to work with your student over the next four years to help guide them to graduation and discover a career they have passion to pursue.  Our guidance staff includes Jenny Barker (last names A-G), Steve Barnes (last names H-O), Connie Acra (last names P-Z), Kim Hackworth (School Psychologist) and Sharon Merkel (Guidance Secretary).  We are here for you and your students.  Whether you need help finding community resources, planning your academics, filling out college/scholarship applications, registering for the ACT/SAT, or just needing someone to touch base with on a personal level about your student, we are here.

To welcome you to the building, we would like to invite you to an 8th Grade Parent Night.  This event will be held on January 23rd at 6:30pm in the Activity Center Auditorium.  Your 8th grade students will receive their 9th grade registration information that day during school so feel free to bring those materials in case you have any questions after the presentation.  During the presentation we will introduce ourselves and discuss the registration process and credit information.  The State of Ohio has recently come out with new graduation requirements so if you have an older student, their required classes for graduation may be different than what your current 8th grade student will need.  You will also have the opportunity to sign up for a 10 minute one on one registration session with your student’s counselor. We will also be holding an activity fair immediately following the presentation so students and parents can learn about opportunities to get involved at the high school.

We encourage parents to bring their students with them to this meeting.  This is a terrific opportunity to share with your student and help them plan out their high school path.  We also understand that everyone has busy lives.  This will not be a long program.  This is just to help you understand graduation requirements, classes offered at the high school and opportunities/resources available to you before your student registers for next year’s classes.

Feel free to call us at 513-728-8426 with any questions.  On behalf of the William Henry Harrison High School Guidance staff, we look forward to meeting each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Barker, Guidance last names A-G

Mr. Barnes, Guidance last names H-O

Mrs. Acra, Guidance last names P-Z
