Food & Clothing Drive Now Underway!

Posted on: December 7, 2020
Food and Clothing Drive

Again this year, the Southwest Local School District is proud to partner with the Harrison Mayor’s Fund, This City His City, Christ’s Loving Hands, and JTM Food Group to provide for those in need in our community this holiday season.

The annual Food and Clothing Drive will take place from December 7-11.  Donations are being accepted at each SLSD building.  Due to limitations on visitors in buildings due to COVID-19, members of the public can bring items to the front doors of each building and a staff member will meet them to accept their donations.  Students should bring items to their classrooms.

The drive seeks to collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items for those less fortunate throughout the Southwest Local School District community.  In addition, winter clothing items such as coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and boots are also being accepted.

Last year, approximately 25,000 food items were collected district-wide, and we look to surpass that number this year.  “This is our largest local community service project of the year,” says Mike Morris, SLSD’s Director of Communications.  “Our community has always been great at rallying around our neighbors in need, and we know this year will be no exception, despite the pandemic.”

Items will be distributed on Saturday, December 19 to families who pre-registered with the Harrison Mayor’s Fund. The distribution will take place from 9:00-11:00 AM at Harrison High School, in a drive-thru format to limit the number of people inside the building.  Excess items will be donated to area food pantries.
