SAFETY

CHANGE IN AFTERNOON TRANSPORTATION

If your student typically is a bus rider and there is a need to pick your child up at the end of the day, we ask that you reach out to the student’s homeroom teacher via their classroom app or a written note. If it is a last-minute change, please call the office. The cut off for changing transportation for your student at the end of the day is 2:30 pm.

If you are picking your student up for an appointment before dismissal, please plan on picking them up no later than 2:45 pm.

CALLING IN ABSENCES

To call in a student absence call 513-738-1717 and when prompted press 2 to leave a message.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

Breakfast takes place each morning from 8:00-8:25 a.m. If your child is a car rider and plans on eating breakfast, they should arrive close to 8:00 so they have time to eat and leave the dining area by 8:25.

See Southwest Local Schools Food Service Website for information on breakfast and lunch: http://www.schoolnutritionandfitness.com/index.php?sid=1485211572028

Did you know there is an app for School Lunch Menus? Go to your app store and download Web Menus by Isite Software

MINDPEACE MENTAL HEALTH SURVEY
The following message went out to all families in the district on Monday afternoon; we are asking as many families as possible to complete this survey (if you have already completed it, thank you and you do not need to complete it again): We at SLSD are committed to providing accessible, quality mental health services to our students.  We have partnered with Mindpeace to ensure our community mental health partners provide quality, affordable, accessible, integrated and aligned school-based therapy services for students in need.  We are asking for your feedback which will help us improve our community mental health partnership.  We appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey by clicking HERE

ACADEMIC GROWTH

NEW MATH ADOPTION

Southwest Local Schools has adopted a new math program this year. Amplify DESMOS is an inquiry-based program that allows students to explore concepts through real-world connections and high-level questioning. It encourages student-to-student interaction and engages students in problem-solving and experiential learning. Check out this video of the new program in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31Jdc9zaEX0

CHANGES IN TESTING

This year the district will be using mClass DIBLES instead of Aimsweb for reading benchmarking of students. This assessment is used to determine which students might be at-risk and allows teachers to provide the appropriate interventions or extensions whichever is appropriate for each student. This assessment will be given 3 times a year for students in grades K-5.

Our K-2 students will be participating in a pilot for a math intervention program from Amplify this school year. Due to the pilot, students will be assessed with STAR Math instead of NWEA MAP.

SOCIAL GROWTH

DISTRICT GOAL: 100% Student Involvement in Extracurricular Activities

Check out this Channel 9 story on a HS Student, demonstrating the importance of ALL students getting involved!

COUNSELING SERVICES

At Crosby Elementary, we have several levels of mental health support for students. Mrs. Lee, our full-time school counselor, is the first line of contact for any of your student’s social or emotional needs. We also partner with Best Point (formally Children’s Home) to offer school therapy to students. Best Point also offers Care Coordination to help parents in the home as well. A Best Point referral can be made by Mrs. Lee or by you as the parent or guardian:

CROSBY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO

The school year has been off to a great start!  The PTO will start meeting the last Monday of the month in September at 7pm in the art room.  Many of our board members have volunteered their time for the last 5-10 years and their kids will be leaving Crosby soon.  We would love to have some parents help us this year and be willing to carry on the tradition of having a very supportive PTO for Crosby teachers and students!  Our annual Trunk or Treat will be 10/18 and Breakfast with Santa will be 12/8.  More info on both these events is coming soon!

MISCELLANEOUS

SAY CHEESE!

Picture Day is scheduled for Thursday, September 5th. All students will be photographed for the yearbook. We do have extra picture order forms in the office, or you may order online at www.mylifetouch.com. Our picture day ID is EVT2FZFVD. Picture retake day is scheduled for Thursday, October 24th.

LOST AND FOUND

Please be sure to label items your child brings to school, such as lunch boxes, water bottles, jackets, sweatshirts, or any other item that could potentially end up in the Lost and Found. This year, we will be moving the lost and found to the area under the stairs at the bus dock exit. Our 5th grade leadership team will be organizing and returning items that are labeled. Items not collected at the end of each month will be donated to a local charity.
