Connecting With Our Community

The Southwest Local School District's mission is to ensure "Academic and Social Growth for All Students, Every Day!"

In addition to the outstanding academic opportunities the district offers, we also incorporate numerous initiatives related to social growth throughout the year. From informal projects done by classrooms to three major activities held annually district-wide, these opportunities help develop in our students a sense of community pride, compassion and understanding of the world beyond themselves.

Listed here is information on some of these community engagement and service projects, detailing the good work our students are doing in and for the community and those companies and organizations helping with those efforts.

Community Outreach

Three district-wide initiatives annually:

  • Local focus - the Mayor's Fund drive, in which canned goods and clothing items are collected in December to assist local needy families
  • National focus
  • International focus

In addition, many of our schools and even individual classrooms lead or participate in a multitude of activities which benefit our community and residents.

Wildcat Work Experience:

  • Skyline Chili-Wildcat Work Experience students assist with opening the store by wiping down tables, booths, highchairs, and booster seats. We also fold bibs for the servers to pass out.
  • Harrison Vet Hospital-Wildcat Work Experience students assist with laundry needs, washing of bowls, counting out medicine, washing the animals, and daily upkeep of the facilities.
  • St. John's the Baptist-Bulletins, mailings, Annual festival raffle tickets
  • Apparel Masters-Wildcat Work Experience students assist with sorting towels that goes to Children's Hospital.
  • Coffee Peddlar-Wildcat Work Experience students write/draw inspirational messages on the coffee sleeves that are then put onto the cups when a customer orders a hot drink. They have also helped with cleaning and organizing of items.
